3c067e99b3 tidy up the dnssec test tree
many of the zones in the dnssec system test were identical or
had only trivial differences, and it would be easier to keep track
of them if they were sourced from template files.

also, the extra_artifacts have been simplified and restored to
the test files.

950df056b3 convert dnssec validation tests to python
begin converting DNSSEC validation tests from shell to python,
and simplify the name servers used in the test.

ns4, the name server used for validation tests, is now configured
using jinja2 templates.

ns8, which was previously used for testing unsupported, disabled
and revoked keys and trust anchors, has been removed. we now
use a jinja2 configuration in ns5 for this purpose.

the configurations in ns7 and ns6 didn't conflict with one another,
so the two servers have been merged into one.

bcf41973bb start converting dnssec system test to python/jinja2
- changed named.conf.in to named.conf.j2 in all server directories that
don't currently need to use copy_setports() during the test.
- converted the tests that use ns5 to python, and replaced
  named1.conf.in and named2.conf.in with a jinja2 template instead.
the only remaining server that still needs copy_setports() is ns4.
- removed ns4/named5.conf.in, and moved its functions to ns5 (which
is supposed to be for servers with broken trust-anchor configurations,
so it should have been there in the first place). converted the tests
that used that ns4 configuration to use ns5 with jinja instead.
- revised the remaining ns4 configurations (named[1-4].conf.in) to
minimize the differences between them. this will make it easier to
convert it into a jinja2 template later.

38ef960fd0 Test extended DS digest type support
Add a zone using DS records that embed the private algorithm
identifier in the digest field. There are 2 DS record for an
unsupported DNSSEC algorithm one of which that doesn't have a
matching DNSKEY. This zone should validate as insecure as the
validator can establish that both DS records are for unsupported
DNSSEC algorithms.

8d554c0c03 Add tests using PRIVATEOID algorithms
There are 4 tests:

1) a zone using a known private OID. Validations should succeed
and return AD=1.

2) a zone using an unknown private OID. Validation should succeed
and return AD=0 as the DS to DNSKEY has provably unsupported
algorithm.

3) a zone using a known private OID and an extra DS record. Validation
should succeed as there is DS to DNSKEY with a known algorithm
linkage.

4) a zone using an unknown private OID and an extra DS record.
Validation should fail as only one of the DS records can be matched
to a provable unknown algorithm. The algorithm of the second DS
is indeterminate.

38f06d958b fix broken dnssec test
When !10262 was rebased prior to merging, there was a
use of dnssec-keygen -n in the dnssec system test that had
not been removed, causing a test failure. This has been fixed.

22d688f656 Remove -n option from dnssec-keygen/keyfromlabel
The -n (nametype) option for keys defaults to ZONE for DNSKEY
type keys, and HOST for KEY type keys. There is currently no
practical reason to use any other name type; we can simplify
things by removing the option.

36cf1c6a5b when forwarding, try with CD=0 first
when sending a query to a forwarder for a name within a secure domain,
the first query is now sent with CD=0. when the forwarder itself
is validating, this will give it a chance to detect bogus data and
replace it with valid data before answering. this reduces our chances
of being stuck with data that can't be validated.

if the forwarder returns SERVFAIL to the initial query, the query
will be repeated with CD=1, to allow for the possibility that the
forwarder's validator is faulty or that the bogus answer is covered
by an NTA.

note: previously, CD=1 was only sent when the query name was in a
secure domain. today, validating servers have a trust anchor at the
root by default, so virtually all queries are in a secure domain.
therefore, the code has been simplified. as long as validation is
enabled, any forward query that receives a SERVFAIL response will be
retried with CD=1.

244923b9dc add DNSSEC EDE test for unsupported digest and alg
A DNSSEC validation can fail in the case where multiple DNSKEY are
available for a zone and none of them are supported, but for different
reasons: one has a DS record in the parent zone using an unsupported
digest while the other one uses an unsupported encryption algorithm.

Add a specific test case covering this flow and making sure that two
extended DNS error are provided: code 1 and 2, each of them highlighting
unsupported algorithm and digest.

Add a system test for mixed-case data for the same owner
We were missing a test where a single owner name would have multiple

then have different case than the signed records and message parser have
to cope with that and treat everything as the same owner.

Reformat shell scripts with shfmt
All changes in this commit were automated using the command:

  shfmt -w -i 2 -ci -bn . $(find . -name "*.sh.in")

By default, only *.sh and files without extension are checked, so
*.sh.in files have to be added additionally. (See mvdan/sh#944)

Rename system test directory with common files to _common
The old name "common" clashes with the convention of system test
directory naming. It appears as a system test directory, but it only
contains helper files.

To reduce confusion and to allow automatic detection of issues with
possibly missing test files, rename the helper directory to "_common".
The leading underscore indicates the directory is different and the its
name can no longer be confused with regular system test directories.

d3bf732697 Update dnssec system test
The dnssec system test has some tests that use auto-dnssec. Update
these tests to make use of dnssec-policy.

Remove any 'rndc signing -nsec3param' commands because with
dnssec-policy you set the NSEC3 parameters in the configuration.

Remove now duplicate tests that checked if CDS and CDNSKEY RRsets
are signed with KSK only (the dnssec-dnskey-kskonly option worked
in combination with auto-dnssec).

Also remove the publish-inactive.example test case because such
use cases are no longer supported (only with manual signing).

The auto-nsec and auto-nsec3 zones need to use an alternative
algorithm because duplicate lines in dnssec-policy/keys are ignored.

bd4576b3ce Remove TKEY Mode 2 (Diffie-Hellman)
Completely remove the TKEY Mode 2 (Diffie-Hellman Exchanged Keying) from
BIND 9 (from named, named.conf and all the tools). The TKEY usage is
fringe at best and in all known cases, GSSAPI is being used as it should.

The draft-eastlake-dnsop-rfc2930bis-tkey specifies that:

    4.2 Diffie-Hellman Exchanged Keying (Deprecated)

The use of this mode (#2) is NOT RECOMMENDED for the following two
reasons but the specification is still included in Appendix A in case
an implementation is needed for compatibility with old TKEY
implementations. See Section 4.6 on ECDH Exchanged Keying.

The mixing function used does not meet current cryptographic
standards because it uses MD5 [RFC6151].

RSA keys must be excessively long to achieve levels of security
          required by current standards.

We might optionally implement Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) key
exchange mode 6 if the draft ever reaches the RFC status. Meanwhile the
insecure DH mode needs to be removed.

Remove leftover test code for Windows
- Removed all code that only runs under CYGWIN, and made all
code that doesn't run under CYGWIN non-optional.
- Removed the $TP variable which was used to add optional
trailing dots to filenames; they're no longer optional.
- Removed references to pssuspend and dos2unix.
- No need to use environment variables for diff and kill.
- Removed uses of "tr -d '\r'"; this was a workaround for
a cygwin regex bug that is no longer needed.

58bd26b6cf Update the copyright information in all files in the repository
This commit converts the license handling to adhere to the REUSE
specification. It specifically:

1. Adds used licnses to LICENSES/ directory

2. Add "isc" template for adding the copyright boilerplate

3. Changes all source files to include copyright and SPDX license
header, this includes all the C sources, documentation, zone files,
configuration files. There are notes in the doc/dev/copyrights file
on how to add correct headers to the new files.

4. Handle the rest that can't be modified via .reuse/dep5 file. The
binary (or otherwise unmodifiable) files could have license places
next to them in <foo>.license file, but this would lead to cluttered
repository and most of the files handled in the .reuse/dep5 file are
   system test files.

Drop $SYSTEMTESTTOP from bin/tests/system/
The $SYSTEMTESTTOP shell variable if often set to .. in various shell
scripts inside bin/tests/system/, but most of the time it is only
used one line later, while sourcing conf.sh. This hardly improves
code readability.

$SYSTEMTESTTOP is also used for the purpose of referencing
scripts/files living in bin/tests/system/, but given that the
variable is always set to a short, relative path, we can drop it and
replace all of its occurrences with the relative path without adversely
affecting code readability.

da2c1b74ad Simplify trailing period handling in system tests
Windows systems do not allow a trailing period in file names while Unix
systems do. When BIND system tests are run, the $TP environment
variable is set to an empty string on Windows systems and to "." on Unix
systems. This environment variable is then used by system test scripts
for handling this discrepancy properly.

In multiple system test scripts, a variable holding a zone name is set
to a string with a trailing period while the names of the zone's
corresponding dlvset-* and/or dsset-* files are determined using
numerous sed invocations like the following one:

    dlvsets="$dlvsets dlvset-`echo $zone |sed -e "s/.$//g"`$TP"

In order to improve code readability, use zone names without trailing
periods and replace sed invocations with variable substitutions.

To retain local consistency, also remove the trailing period from
certain other zone names used in system tests that are not subsequently
processed using sed.

6661db9564 silence a spurious dnssec-keygen warning in the dnssec system test
the occluded-key test creates both a KEY and a DNSKEY. the second
call to dnssec-keygen calls dns_dnssec_findmatchingkeys(), which causes

this should be fixed in dnssec.c, but the meantime this change silences
the warning by reversing the order in which the keys are created.
