Blackhole queries to root servers in tests
Some tests don't have a mock root server configured, because they don't
need one. However, these tests might still leak queries to actual name
servers. Add a shared root hints file which can serve as a blackhole for
these queries.

Allow nsupdate test rerun on FreeBSD
The "exceeded time limit waiting for literal 'too many DNS UPDATEs

Despite out efforts to stabilize it, the check still often fails on
FreeBSD in our CI. Allow the test to be re-run on this platform.

Reformat shell scripts with shfmt
All changes in this commit were automated using the command:

shfmt -w -i 2 -ci -bn . $(find . -name "*.sh.in")

By default, only *.sh and files without extension are checked, so
*.sh.in files have to be added additionally. (See mvdan/sh#944)

Rename system test directory with common files to _common
The old name "common" clashes with the convention of system test
directory naming. It appears as a system test directory, but it only
contains helper files.

To reduce confusion and to allow automatic detection of issues with
possibly missing test files, rename the helper directory to "_common".
The leading underscore indicates the directory is different and the its
name can no longer be confused with regular system test directories.

Use $(...) notation for subshells in system tests
The changes were mostly done with sed:

There have been a few manual changes where the regex wasn't sufficient
(e.g. backslashes inside the `...`) or wrong (`...` referring to docs or

a31dd61b0f explicitly set dnssec-validation in system tests
the default value of dnssec-validation is 'auto', which causes
a server to send a key refresh query to the root zone when starting
up. this is undesirable behavior in system tests, so this commit
sets dnssec-validation to either 'yes' or 'no' in all tests where
it had not previously been set.

this change had the mostly-harmless side effect of changing the cached
trust level of unvalidated answer data from 'answer' to 'authanswer',
which caused a few test cases in which dumped cache data was examined in
the serve-stale system test to fail. those test cases have now been
updated to expect 'authanswer'.

Add pytest functions for shell system tests
In order to run the shell system tests, the pytest runner has to pick
them up somehow. Adding an extra python file with a single function

versions.

0915738c46 FIPS tests changes for RHEL
Include MD5 feature detection in featuretest tool and use it in some
places. When RHEL distribution or Fedora ELN is in FIPS mode, then MD5
algorithm is unavailable completely and even hmac-md5 algorithm usage
will always fail. Work that around by checking MD5 works and if not,
skipping its usage.

Those changes were dragged as downstream patch bind-9.11-fips-tests.patch

1d6721c5fa increase simultaneous updates for quota test
the nsupdate system test was intermittently failing due to the update
quota not being exceeded when it should have been. this is most likely
a timing issue: the client is sending updates too slowly, or the server
is processing them too quickly, for the quota to fill. this commit
attempts to make that the failure less likely by increasing the number
of update transactions from 10 to 20.

5fd93c66aa remove nonfunctional DSCP implementation
DSCP has not been fully working since the network manager was
introduced in 9.16, and has been completely broken since 9.18.
This seems to have caused very few difficulties for anyone,
so we have now marked it as obsolete and removed the
implementation.

To ensure that old config files don't fail, the code to parse
dscp key-value pairs is still present, but a warning is logged
that the feature is obsolete and should not be used. Nothing is
done with configured values, and there is no longer any
range checking.

Simplify start/stop helper func in system tests
The system test should never attempt to start or stop any other server
than those that belong to that system test. Therefore, it is not
necessary to specify the system test name in function calls.

Additionally, this makes it possible to run the test inside a
differently named directory, as its name is automatically detected with
the $SYSTESTDIR variable. This enables running the system tests inside a
temporary directory.

Direct use of stop.pl was replaced with a more systematic approach to
use stop_servers helper function.

ec54de9e47 Log "not authoritative for update zone" more clearly
Ensure the update zone name is mentioned in the NOTAUTH error message
in the server log, so that it is easier to track down problematic

server's zones (previously the name of the irrelevant parent zone was
misleadingly logged).

58bd26b6cf Update the copyright information in all files in the repository
This commit converts the license handling to adhere to the REUSE
specification. It specifically:

1. Adds used licnses to LICENSES/ directory

2. Add "isc" template for adding the copyright boilerplate

3. Changes all source files to include copyright and SPDX license
header, this includes all the C sources, documentation, zone files,
configuration files. There are notes in the doc/dev/copyrights file
on how to add correct headers to the new files.

4. Handle the rest that can't be modified via .reuse/dep5 file. The
binary (or otherwise unmodifiable) files could have license places
next to them in <foo>.license file, but this would lead to cluttered
repository and most of the files handled in the .reuse/dep5 file are
   system test files.

5b31811b5f Update nsupdate test
The nsupdate system test did not record failures from the
'update_test.pl' Perl script. This was because the 'ret' value was
not being saved outside the '{ $PERL ... || ret=1 } cat_i' scope.

Change this piece to store the output in a separate file and then
cat its contents. Now the 'ret' value is being saved.

Also record failures in 'update_test.pl' if sending the update
failed.

test numbers.

Add tests for the "tkey-gssapi-credential" option
Four named instances in the "nsupdate" system test have GSS-TSIG support
enabled. All of them currently use "tkey-gssapi-keytab". Configure two
of them with "tkey-gssapi-credential" to test that option.

As "tkey-gssapi-keytab" and "tkey-gssapi-credential" both provide the
same functionality, no test modifications are required. The difference
between the two options is that the value of "tkey-gssapi-keytab" is an
explicit path to the keytab file to acquire credentials from, while the
value of "tkey-gssapi-credential" is the name of the principal whose
credentials should be used; those credentials are looked up in the
keytab file expected by the Kerberos library, i.e. /etc/krb5.keytab by
default. The path to the default keytab file can be overridden using by
setting the KRB5_KTNAME environment variable. Utilize that variable to
use existing keytab files with the "tkey-gssapi-credential" option.

The KRB5_KTNAME environment variable should not interfere with the
"tkey-gssapi-keytab" option. Nevertheless, rename one of the keytab
files used with "tkey-gssapi-keytab" to something else than the contents
of the KRB5_KTNAME environment variable in order to make sure that both
"tkey-gssapi-keytab" and "tkey-gssapi-credential" are actually tested.

In order to lower the amount of memory allocated at startup by named
