The definition of the PUBLISH message type indicates that the LSB are
independent, but uses a value of 0xF that clearly shows an attempt to
use a mask instead, but it results in all messages not having all flags
set to be rejected. A sane approach would have been to check for a mask
and an expected value. Let's just add a special case for it in function
mqtt_read_fixed_hdr() since that's for a single message type.
This can be backported anywhere.
In mqtt_parse_connack(), the MQTT_PROP_SUBSCRIPTION_IDENTIFIERS_AVAILABLE
case was checking and setting MQTT_FN_BIT_SUBSCRIPTION_IDENTIFIER instead
of MQTT_FN_BIT_SUBSCRIPTION_IDENTIFIERS_AVAILABLE, due to a copy-paste
mistake. This can be backported where needed.
In mqtt_parse_connect(), the MQTT_PROP_TOPIC_ALIAS_MAXIMUM case was checking
and setting MQTT_FN_BIT_TOPIC_ALIAS instead of MQTT_FN_BIT_TOPIC_ALIAS_MAXIMUM.
This means duplicate detection for Topic-Alias-Maximum property was using the
wrong bitmask, and the actual Topic-Alias-Maximum bit was never set, making
duplicate detection ineffective for this property. The CONNACK parser already
had this correct.
In mqtt_parse_connack(), the switch statement's default case for unknown
MQTT properties was using 'return 0' which returns MQTT_NEED_MORE_DATA.
This is misleading: an unknown property should be treated as an invalid
message (MQTT_INVALID_MESSAGE), like other functions do. This branches to
the "end" label without touching the preset return value instead. This can
be backported if needed.

There was a typo in the macro name, where LENGTH was incorrectly
written. This didn't cause any issue because the typo appeared in all
occurrences in the codebase.
In MQTTv3.1, protocol name is "MQIsdp" and protocol level is 3. The mqtt
converters(mqtt_is_valid and mqtt_field_value) did not work for clients on
mqttv3.1 because the mqtt_parse_connect() marked the CONNECT message invalid
if either the protocol name is not "MQTT" or the protocol version is other than
v3.1.1 or v5.0. To fix it, we have added the mqttv3.1 protocol name and version
as part of the checks.
This patch fixes the mqtt converters to support mqttv3.1 clients as well (issue #1600).
It must be backported to 2.4.
As specified by the MQTT specification (MQTT-3.1.3-6), the client ID may be
empty. That means the length of the client ID string may be 0. However, The
MQTT parser does not support empty strings.
So, to fix the bug, the mqtt_read_string() function may now parse empty
string. 2 bytes must be found to decode the string length, but the length
may be 0 now. It is the caller responsibility to test the string emptiness
if necessary. In addition, in mqtt_parse_connect(), the client ID may be
empty now.
This patch should partely fix the issue #1310. It must be backported to 2.4.
Parsing of too long strings (> 127 characters) was buggy because of a wrong
cast on the length bytes. To fix the bug, we rely on mqtt_read_2byte_int()
function. This way, the string length is properly decoded.

This patch implements a couple of converters to validate and extract data from a
MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) message. The validation consists of a
few checks as well as "packet size" validation. The extraction can get any field
from the variable header and the payload.
This is limited to CONNECT and CONNACK packet types only. All other messages are
considered as invalid. It is not a problem for now because only the first packet
on each side can be parsed (CONNECT for the client and CONNACK for the server).
MQTT 3.1.1 and 5.0 are supported.
