Also, don't build pccardc now. I've left it in place for people that
wish to build it to test experimental support for oldcard
functionality that may have been lost in newcard.

b9124a7354 Add line edit and history support to ngctl(8) via editline(3).
Details:
- The main thread runs editline(3) functions, that can block.
- A separate thread is launched to monitor netgraph sockets.
- The access to the descriptors is protected by a mutex. At
runtime the monitoring thread owns the mutex. When the main
thread reads a command from el_gets() it asks the monitoring
thread to release a mutex and sleep until the main thread
  processes the command.

This makes ngctl(8) depend on libedit, and libpthread. Thus, the
new functionality isn't compiled in if release is being built
with -DRELEASE_CRUNCH.

259d74ed53 Link kldxref(8) static on PowerPC to work around a SIGSEGV that

The SIGSEGV only happens when kldxref is linked shared.
Since kldxref(8) is needed for a release build, having it not

9ceddbd532 Change maketempfile() to return a FILE* so as to eliminate the fopen()
that immediately follows the only call to it. maketempfile() uses
mkstemp(), so the temporary file has already been opened and using
fopen() again just opens the file twice. This also fixes the invalid
mode used on the fopen().
While here, assign NULL to fxref after fclose() because we test for
fxref being !NULL to determine if we have the (temporary) hints file
open.

0e4e809602 Give a major overhaul to asf(8).
The improvements are:

- can get the kld info from core files via kvm(3);
- can use kldstat(2) directly, which is a piece of cake;
- can use .symbols or whatever, which allows for use by
non-developers when reporting system crashes -- now asf(8)
  can be mentioned in the handbook at last;
- speed (no more double fts(3) per loaded module);
- various bugs fixed.

At the same time, the new asf(8) should stay compatible with
the old one, bar bugs. Perhaps some defaults may be changed
later to match today's state of affairs.

4b93a7cae2 The approach portsnap uses of "pick a random HTTP mirror" doesn't
interact very nicely with HTTP proxies: Since proxies do not know
that all the files on portsnap1.freebsd.org are identical to the
files with the same names on portsnap2.freebsd.org, said proxies end
up downloading and storing files in duplicate.

This commit uses the HTTP_PROXY environment variable, if set, to
generate a random number seed for use in selecting a mirror. This
means that if several systems all have the same HTTP_PROXY value set,
they will ask the proxy to fetch files from the same mirror (unless
that mirror fails, in which case all the systems will use the same
second choice, et cetera).

Portsnap still doesn't interact very well with "transparent" HTTP
proxies, but there's nothing I can do about those.

1e87b57202 Instead of selecting a mirror and failing if it is inaccessible, keep
track of which mirrors we have tried and try a different mirror if we
fail when trying to download the SSL public key or the snapshot
signature.

Failures later in the download process will not result in switching to
a different mirror, for two reasons:
1. If is very unlikely that a mirror will fail partway through the
process of downloading updates.
2. If we switched from a more recently updated mirror to a less
recently updated mirror partway through the download process, we would
end up failing anyway because we would be trying to fetch files which
the second mirror didn't have yet.

55a5ff0140 Add auto upgrade capability to mergemaster.
An mtree description of all non-zero files that make
distribution installs (only size and md5) is built from the
temproot. When the user completes a mergemaster run, the
mtree description file gets installed into /var/db for
safe-keeping.

When the user then decides to do a subsequent upgrade (with
the -U flag), the existing mtree description from /var/db
is called into service looking for files that are different in
DESTDIR. This is stashed away until a file that would normally
end up prompting the user to look at changes is encountered.
Since there are no user modified changes, the new file is
installed without bothering the user.

89ddbd45e5 Add some new options to mac_bsdestended. We can now match on:
subject: ranges of uid, ranges of gid, jail id
objects: ranges of uid, ranges of gid, filesystem,
object is suid, object is sgid, object matches subject uid/gid
		object type

We can also negate individual conditions. The ruleset language is
a superset of the previous language, so old rules should continue
to work.

These changes require a change to the API between libugidfw and the
mac_bsdextended module. Add a version number, so we can tell if
we're running mismatched versions.

Update man pages to reflect changes, add extra test cases to
test_ugidfw.c and add a shell script that checks that the the
module seems to do what we expect.

ae4f0fc3a9 Currently, if writing out a log entry fails, we unlink that log entry from our
internal list of logfiles. So if writev(2) fails for potentially transient
errors like ENOSPC, syslogd requires a restart, even if the filesystem has
purged.

This change allows syslogd to ignore ENOSPC space errors, so that when the
filesystem is cleaned up, syslogd will automatically start logging again
without requiring the reset. This makes syslogd(8) a bit more reliable.

49874f6ea3 MFP4: Support for profiling dynamically loaded objects.
Kernel changes:

Inform hwpmc of executable objects brought into the system by
kldload() and mmap(), and of their removal by kldunload() and
munmap(). A helper function linker_hwpmc_list_objects() has been
added to "sys/kern/kern_linker.c" and is used by hwpmc to retrieve
the list of currently loaded kernel modules.

The unused `MAPPINGCHANGE' event has been deprecated in favour
of separate `MAP_IN' and `MAP_OUT' events; this change reduces
  space wastage in the log.

Bump the hwpmc's ABI version to "2.0.00". Teach hwpmc(4) to
  handle the map change callbacks.

Change the default per-cpu sample buffer size to hold
  32 samples (up from 16).

  Increment __FreeBSD_version.

libpmc(3) changes:

Update libpmc(3) to deal with the new events in the log file; bring
the pmclog(3) manual page in sync with the code.

pmcstat(8) changes:

Introduce new options to pmcstat(8): "-r" (root fs path), "-M"
(mapfile name), "-q"/"-v" (verbosity control). Option "-k" now
takes a kernel directory as its argument but will also work with
  the older invocation syntax.

Rework string handling in pmcstat(8) to use an opaque type for
interned strings. Clean up ELF parsing code and add support for
tracking dynamic object mappings reported by a v2.0.00 hwpmc(4).

Report statistics at the end of a log conversion run depending
  on the requested verbosity level.

9fe7600bbe Revamp base system packaging of kernels to enable up/smp selection
at runtime and to support distributing additional kernels:
o remove kernel from the base tarball
o add new kernel tarballs
o build + package both SMP and GENERIC kernels when an <arch>/conf/SMP
  config file is present
o add sysinstall support for multiple kernels
o update sysinstall to probe for the number of cpus on a system
  and auto-select smp/up kernel accordingly
o add a post-kernels install hook to fixup /boot/kernel
o add -ldevinfo to boot crunch for sysinstall's cpu probing logic

Notes:
1. On HEAD this code is not currently used because GENERIC kernels
include SMP. This work is mainly intended for RELENG_6 where the
GENERIC kernel is UP. If HEAD changes to match then just enable
   WITH_SMP in sysinstall/Makefile.
2. The cpu probing support is done with acpi and MPTable; this means
some systems will require work for auto-detection to work.
3. The handling of /boot/kernel may need to be revisited; for now
we rename one kernel at the last moment (SMP if installed, otherwise
GENERIC). There are other, possibly better, approaches.

when they don't exist, but sometimes its quite useful (eg. we use
non-standard log files and memory backed /var/, which is populated on
boot).

Add -C option which tells syslogd(8) to create log files if they don't
exist.

d30d1cdee6 - Autogenerate a menu containing a list of countries and keymaps supported
by syscons.
- If we are running as init, popup the country menu before the main menu.
If a non-default country is chosen, then a second menu is brought up
to let the user choose a keymap. By default the default keymap for
the country that was selected is highlighted. If the user chooses the
default country, then the default keymap is just assumed and the user
is not presented with the keymap menu. Currently the default country
is set to "United States" except for PC98 which assumes "Japan".

bee3d34f79 The quot command expected all inodes contents to be valid, however
on UFS2 inodes are initialised as they are needed, rather than at
newfs time. When quot encountered these inodes it could produce
crazy results.

Now, on UFS2 filesystems, quot's get_inode function will bzero
unallicated inodes before passing them back to a caller. This is
how UFS2 initialises new inodes, so this should work OK.

Also, while I'm here, make quot exit with an error if it finds
inodes of an unknown type. This should help catch future problems
of this type.

ce036f4091 When using @cwd %%FOO%%, we must ensure to return in the original
prefix later, but doing so with @cwd %%OLDPREFIX%% (having
PLIST_SUB+="OLDPREFIX=${PREFIX}") hardcodes the value in the packing
list. That's not really a problem when dealing with ports but that's
a problem with packages since pkg_add -p option only overrides the

This patch allow us to use @cwd without any argument. If no

55f92f6465 Commands like gmirror, graid3, ... and others which use dlopen() to load
classes from say, /lib/geom, cannot be statically linked completely.
Moreover, those shared objects may require other shared objects (i.e.
for geom, libraries like -lmd, -lcrypto).

The libs_so extension to crunchgen fixes this by allowing some libraries
to be linked in dynamically. This requires that a copy of rtld and the
shared libraries be made available to the crunched binary, and so is not
suitable for all environments. Crunchgen configurations which do not
use the 'libs_so' keyword are unaffected and produce identical binaries
with and without this commit.

03349079fe The DEFAULTS changes caused the user specified config file to be opened
much later than before, and it is now after we do a mkdir ../compile/FILE.
As a result, if you do 'config DOESNOTEXIST', it now creates the directory
../config/DOESNOTEXIST. It did not do that before. If DEFAULTS does not
exist, it still fails early before any permanent changes.

This shameless hack restores the old behavior of ensuring the config file
actually exists before mkdiring its counterpart directory.

Now I can rmdir ../compile/D and it will stay dead, after my fingers keep
sabotaging me with 'config D<tab><enter>'. (Some of my kernel names
started with D, which used to be 1-character unique and my fingers knew
this very well...)

251bb62d63 When a user is in more than 16 groups the call to authunix_create() will
result in abort() beeing called. This is because there is a limit of
the number of groups in the RPC which is 16. When the actual number of
groups is too large it results in xdr_array() returning an error which,
in turn, authunix_create() handles by just calling abort().

Fix this by passing only the first 16 groups to authunix_create().

634e3a5c83 Add some rationale about when to bump and not bump the config version.
Clarify that it is not like the shlib versions, and not like param.h's
__FreeBSD_version/osreldate either.

When config(8) was actively changing a while back, the interface between
config and the build system (eg: /sys/conf/files.* and Makefile.*) was
changing rapidly. configvers is a version number of that interface.

User specified config files do not have a version number. The decision
about whether a user supplied config file is syntactically valid or not
belongs to the parser and sanity checks, not an arbitary number.

51d6d0952b Clean up and apply the fix for PR 83477. The calculation for locating
the start of the section headers has to take into account the fact
that the image_nt_header is really variable sized. It happens that
the existing calculation is correct for _most_ production binaries
produced by the Windows DDK, but if we get a binary with oddball
offsets, the PE loader could crash.

Changes from the supplied patch are:

- We don't really need to use the IMAGE_SIZEOF_NT_HEADER() macro when
computing how much of the header to return to callers of
pe_get_optional_header(). While it's important to take the variable
size of the header into account in other calculations, we never
actually look at anything outside the non-variable portion of the
header. This saves callers from having to allocate a variable sized
buffer off the heap (I purposely tried to avoid using malloc()
in subr_pe.c to make it easier to compile in both the -D_KERNEL and
!-D_KERNEL case), and since we're copying into a buffer on the
stack, we always have to copy the same amount of data or else
we'll trash the stack something fierce.

- We need <stddef.h> to get offsetof() in the !-D_KERNEL case.

- ndiscvt.c needs the IMAGE_FIRST_SECTION() macro too, since it does
a little bit of section pre-processing.

a1819ab598 Use a pipe for reading devd events as another method of getting the AC line
status. Add a thread that waits for events on the named pipe instead of
polling the line status via apm or the ACPI sysctl. Additionally, use
robust error handling in case devd goes away or we temporarily can't set
a frequency (i.e., passive cooling has preempted our setting).

Later, this should be improved so that if adaptive control is not being used,
we will block while waiting for AC line events, saving a little CPU.

ff69e5b71e Teach portsnap how to ignore unwanted parts of the ports tree. A line
of the form "REFUSE foo" in portsnap.conf will result in parts of the
tree matching "^foo" being (a) not extracted by "portsnap extract", (b)
not updated by "portsnap update", and (c) not having any patches or new
ports downloaded by "portsnap fetch" or "portsnap cron". The example
shown in portsnap.conf demonstrates ignoring all the language categories.

As mentioned in portsnap.conf.5, the use of an imcomplete ports tree is
not officially supported; but this is something which many users have
requested, so I'm adding it anyway.

398b037d7d Change the default partition sizing code in order to
1. Provide larger /, /var, and /tmp partitions (the last increase was
in 2001, and we now have both larger hard drives and more space-hungry
software.)
2. If there is enough space available, allocate extra space to /var
sufficient to store a crash dump.

On systems where harddrivesize > 3 * RAMsize + 10GB, the default sizes
will now be as follows:
swap	RAMsize * 2
/ 512 MB
/tmp	512 MB
/var	1024 MB + RAMsize
/usr	the rest (8GB or more)

On systems where harddrivesize > RAMsize / 8 + 2 GB, the default sizes
will be in the following ranges, with space allocated proportionally:
swap	RAMsize / 8 -- RAMsize * 2
/	256 MB -- 512 MB
/tmp	128 MB -- 512 MB
/var	128 MB -- 1024 MB
/usr	1536 MB -- 8192 MB

On systems with even less disk space, the existing behaviour is not
changed.

8bd435d9cf Not sure why, but SYSCTL_OUT() can sometimes keep returning ENOMEM
in sysctl_jail_list(). Because of this, jls(8) could enter into
an endless loop. The strange thing is, that we can call jls(8) while
the other one is in loop and it will succeed - SYSCTL_OUT() will
not return ENOMEM there.

Maybe SYSCTL_OUT() returns first ENOMEM, because there is no memory,
but is marking some memory range as wired even on failure and another
SYSCTL_OUT() calls are not going to succeed, because process exceeds
limit of wired memory? ENOVMCLUE.

Anyway. Fix jls(8) to ignore ENOMEM and retry only 4 times.

This bug was caused by the astonishing interaction of "return" and

6fb01948ee Add portsnap to the base system. This is a secure, easy to use,
fast, lightweight, and generally good way for users to keep their
ports trees up to date.

This is version 0.9.4 from the ports tree (sysutils/portsnap) with
the following changes:
1. The experimental pipelined http code is enabled. No seatbelts
in -CURRENT. (^_^)
2. The working directory has moved from /usr/local/portsnap to
/var/db/portsnap (as discussed on -arch two days ago).
3. Portsnap now fetches a list of mirrors (distributed as DNS SRV
records) and selects one randomly. This should help to avoid the
uneven loading which plagues the cvsup mirror network.
4. The license is now 2-clause BSD instead of 3-clause BSD.
5. Various incidental changes to make portsnap fit into the base
system's build mechanics.

e45a56744b Correct problems with handling interfaces that go away (e.g. when
a card is ejected). wpa_supplicant requires that internal events
for interfaces coming+going include a name but after an interface
is removed you cannot use if_indextoname to map the interface index
in the RTM_IFINFO (or RTM_IFANNOUNCE) msg to an interface name.
Instead record the interface index in the driver-private data area
and use that to filter msgs from the routing socket. This insures
that when we have a message to process we know the interface name.
The end result is that we can now dispatch an "interface removed"
event that is understood when notified than an interface went away
(where previously the event dispatched was ignored because the
interface name was unrecognized).

This change also insures we only process events for our interface.

The only downside is that we can no longer wait for an interface
to arrive as we need to map the interface name to an index at
startup. This is not important as wpa_supplicant should be launched
by devd and not include a separate mechanism for doing interface
discovery.

keyboard index pass keyboard_info_t structure with populated 'kb_unit' and
'kb_name' fields. Keyboard index is not very user-friendly and is not very
easy to obtain. Keyboard driver name and unit, on the other hand, is much

o Move definition of keyboard_info_t structure up;

o Teach kbdcontrol(1) how to attach/detach keyboards to/from the keyboard
  multiplexor;

o Update kbdcontrol(1) man page and document new functionality.

To attach/detach keyboard to/from keyboard multiplexor one needs to use
keyboard device name (i.e. ukbd0).

ff900deda6 Correctly handle an input file without a newline on the last line (and
avoid the confusing error message about the line being too long). This
change uses fgetln to detect the right conditions, but the fixed-width
line buffer is kept because too many other places in the program make
assumptions about its maximum width.

a8e0b2e8ab Remove rexecd(8), a server that implements a particularly insecure
method of executing commands remotely. There are no rexec clients in
the FreeBSD tree, and the client function rexec(3) is present only in
libcompat. It has been documented as "obsolete" since 4.3BSD, and its
use has been discouraged in the man page for over 10 years.

fc74a9f93a Stop embedding struct ifnet at the top of driver softcs. Instead the
struct ifnet or the layer 2 common structure it was embedded in have
been replaced with a struct ifnet pointer to be filled by a call to the
new function, if_alloc(). The layer 2 common structure is also allocated
via if_alloc() based on the interface type. It is hung off the new
struct ifnet member, if_l2com.

This change removes the size of these structures from the kernel ABI and
will allow us to better manage them as interfaces come and go.

Other changes of note:
 - Struct arpcom is no longer referenced in normal interface code.
Instead the Ethernet address is accessed via the IFP2ENADDR() macro.
To enforce this ac_enaddr has been renamed to _ac_enaddr.
 - The second argument to ether_ifattach is now always the mac address
from driver private storage rather than sometimes being ac_enaddr.

4f1178e76c Add an -I option to pkg_version:
-I Use only the index file for determining if a package is out of
date. This is much faster than using the version number from a
port's Makefile, at the expense of potentially giving an incor-
rect result if the index file is out of date.

Without this option, the index file is only consulted if "make -V PKGNAME"
cannot be used.

c46a9ea89b Fix problem with session termination. bthidd(8) maintains two L2CAP
connections to Bluetooth HID device. As soon as Bluetooth HID device
is powered off (or goes out of RF range) the stack will terminate both
connections. File descriptors for both connections will become active
on next select(2) call. Because bthidd(8) processes file descriptors
in order, it will detect descriptor for one of the closed connections
first and kill the session. However, there is still a second (active)
descriptor that used to point to the same session. bthidd(8) used to
assert() if it cant find session by file descriptor, which was wrong.

c5153e190b Add convenience APIs pmc_width() and pmc_capabilities() to -lpmc.
Have pmcstat(8) and pmccontrol(8) use these APIs.

Return PMC class-related constants (PMC widths and capabilities)
with the OP GETCPUINFO call leaving OP PMCINFO to return only the
dynamic information associated with a PMC (i.e., whether enabled,
owner pid, reload count etc.).

Allow pmc_read() (i.e., OPS PMCRW) on active self-attached PMCs to
get upto-date values from hardware since we can guarantee that the
hardware is running the correct PMC at the time of the call.

Bug fixes:
 - (x86 class processors) Fix a bug that prevented an RDPMC
instruction from being recognized as permitted till after the
attached process had context switched out and back in again after
   a pmc_start() call.

Tighten the rules for using RDPMC class instructions: a GETMSR
OP is now allowed only after an OP ATTACH has been done by the
PMC's owner to itself. OP GETMSR is not allowed for PMCs that
track descendants, for PMCs attached to processes other than
   their owner processes.

 - (P4/HTT processors only) Fix a bug that caused the MI and MD
layers to get out of sync. Add a new MD operation 'get_config()'
   as part of this fix.

 - Allow multiple system-mode PMCs at the same row-index but on
   different CPUs to be allocated.

 - Reject allocation of an administratively disabled PMC.

Misc. code cleanups and refactoring. Improve a few comments.

96b50ea387 Throw the switch on the new driver generation/loading mechanism. From
here on in, if_ndis.ko will be pre-built as a module, and can be built
into a static kernel (though it's not part of GENERIC). Drivers are
created using the new ndisgen(8) script, which uses ndiscvt(8) under
the covers, along with a few other tools. The result is a driver module
that can be kldloaded into the kernel.

A driver with foo.inf and foo.sys files will be converted into
foo_sys.ko (and foo_sys.o, for those who want/need to make static
kernels). This module contains all of the necessary info from the
.INF file and the driver binary image, converted into an ELF module.
You can kldload this module (or add it to /boot/loader.conf) to have
it loaded automatically. Any required firmware files can be bundled
into the module as well (or converted/loaded separately).

Also, add a workaround for a problem in NdisMSleep(). During system
bootstrap (cold == 1), msleep() always returns 0 without actually
sleeping. The Intel 2200BG driver uses NdisMSleep() to wait for
the NIC's firmware to come to life, and fails to load if NdisMSleep()
doesn't actually delay. As a workaround, if msleep() (and hence
ndis_thsuspend()) returns 0, use a hard DELAY() to sleep instead).
This is not really the right thing to do, but we can't really do much
else. At the very least, this makes the Intel driver happy.

There are probably other drivers that fail in this way during bootstrap.
Unfortunately, the only workaround for those is to avoid pre-loading
them and kldload them once the system is running instead.

d61e43fe1e - Fix a bug in sysinstall related to mounting CD-ROMs. If mount(2) fails
with EBUSY and a cdrom is not mounted at /cdrom, sysinstall fails to
treat it as an error and thinks that the disk mounted ok. However, it
doesn't find a cdrom.inf file so it complains. Later when it tries to
unmount the disk due to a mediaClose() umount(2) returns an error, and it
never clears its internal mounted flag. The fix here is to properly
handle EBUSY as an error if there isn't a CD already mounted at /cdrom.
- Add a new CDROMInitQuiet variable that can be used to shut up the dialog
box about the mount(2) system call failing when trying to mount a CD-ROM.
This is used by the feature described below.
- When using a fixit CD, first try to see if we can mount the disc in the
drive now and use it as a fixit CD. If not, then prompt the user to
insert the disc and try again. If we do succeed on the first "silent"
probe then we don't ask the user to eject the disk after leaving fixit
  mode.
- Add a simple file existence test to make sure that the disc that we mount
  really is a livefs disc.
- Explicitly switch back to ttyv0 when using the standard console after
the fixit shell dies. Previously this behavior worked accidentally
because all the fixit modes popped up a dialog box which contained a
  hidden switch to ttyv0.

d8f2dda739 Add support for Windows/x86-64 binaries to Project Evil.
Ville-Pertti Keinonen (will at exomi dot comohmygodnospampleasekthx)
deserves a big thanks for submitting initial patches to make it
work. I have mangled his contributions appropriately.

The main gotcha with Windows/x86-64 is that Microsoft uses a different
calling convention than everyone else. The standard ABI requires using
6 registers for argument passing, with other arguments on the stack.
Microsoft uses only 4 registers, and requires the caller to leave room
on the stack for the register arguments incase the callee needs to
spill them. Unlike x86, where Microsoft uses a mix of _cdecl, _stdcall
and _fastcall, all routines on Windows/x86-64 uses the same convention.
This unfortunately means that all the functions we export to the
driver require an intermediate translation wrapper. Similarly, we have
to wrap all calls back into the driver binary itself.

The original patches provided macros to wrap every single routine at
compile time, providing a secondary jump table with a customized
wrapper for each exported routine. I decided to use a different approach:
the call wrapper for each function is created from a template at
runtime, and the routine to jump to is patched into the wrapper as
it is created. The subr_pe module has been modified to patch in the
wrapped function instead of the original. (On x86, the wrapping
routine is a no-op.)

There are some minor API differences that had to be accounted for:

- KeAcquireSpinLock() is a real function on amd64, not a macro wrapper
  around KfAcquireSpinLock()
- NdisFreeBuffer() is actually IoFreeMdl(). I had to change the whole
NDIS_BUFFER API a bit to accomodate this.

Bugs fixed along the way:
- IoAllocateMdl() always returned NULL
- kern_windrv.c:windrv_unload() wasn't releasing private driver object
extensions correctly (found thanks to memguard)

This has only been tested with the driver for the Broadcom 802.11g
chipset, which was the only Windows/x86-64 driver I could find.

79653046d8 Add a new sysctl, "security.jail.chflags_allowed", which controls the
behaviour of chflags within a jail. If set to 0 (the default), then a
jailed root user is treated as an unprivileged user; if set to 1, then
a jailed root user is treated the same as an unjailed root user.

This is necessary to allow "make installworld" to work inside a jail,
since it attempts to manipulate the system immutable flag on certain
files.

b545a3b822 Next step on the road to IRPs: create and use an imitation of the
Windows DRIVER_OBJECT and DEVICE_OBJECT mechanism so that we can
simulate driver stacking.

In Windows, each loaded driver image is attached to a DRIVER_OBJECT
structure. Windows uses the registry to match up a given vendor/device
ID combination with a corresponding DRIVER_OBJECT. When a driver image
is first loaded, its DriverEntry() routine is invoked, which sets up
the AddDevice() function pointer in the DRIVER_OBJECT and creates
a dispatch table (based on IRP major codes). When a Windows bus driver
detects a new device, it creates a Physical Device Object (PDO) for
it. This is a DEVICE_OBJECT structure, with semantics analagous to
that of a device_t in FreeBSD. The Windows PNP manager will invoke
the driver's AddDevice() function and pass it pointers to the DRIVER_OBJECT
and the PDO.

The AddDevice() function then creates a new DRIVER_OBJECT structure of
its own. This is known as the Functional Device Object (FDO) and
corresponds roughly to a private softc instance. The driver uses
IoAttachDeviceToDeviceStack() to add this device object to the
driver stack for this PDO. Subsequent drivers (called filter drivers
in Windows-speak) can be loaded which add themselves to the stack.
When someone issues an IRP to a device, it travel along the stack
passing through several possible filter drivers until it reaches
the functional driver (which actually knows how to talk to the hardware)
at which point it will be completed. This is how Windows achieves
driver layering.

Project Evil now simulates most of this. if_ndis now has a modevent
handler which will use MOD_LOAD and MOD_UNLOAD events to drive the
creation and destruction of DRIVER_OBJECTs. (The load event also
does the relocation/dynalinking of the image.) We don't have a registry,
so the DRIVER_OBJECTS are stored in a linked list for now. Eventually,
the list entry will contain the vendor/device ID list extracted from
the .INF file. When ndis_probe() is called and detectes a supported
device, it will create a PDO for the device instance and attach it
to the DRIVER_OBJECT just as in Windows. ndis_attach() will then call
our NdisAddDevice() handler to create the FDO. The NDIS miniport block
is now a device extension hung off the FDO, just as it is in Windows.
The miniport characteristics table is now an extension hung off the
DRIVER_OBJECT as well (the characteristics are the same for all devices
handled by a given driver, so they don't need to be per-instance.)
We also do an IoAttachDeviceToDeviceStack() to put the FDO on the
stack for the PDO. There are a couple of fake bus drivers created
for the PCI and pccard buses. Eventually, there will be one for USB,
which will actually accept USB IRP.s

Things should still work just as before, only now we do things in
the proper order and maintain the correct framework to support passing
IRPs between drivers.

Various changes:

- corrected the comments about IRQL handling in subr_hal.c to more
  accurately reflect reality
- update ndiscvt to make the drv_data symbol in ndis_driver_data.h a
global so that if_ndis_pci.o and/or if_ndis_pccard.o can see it.
- Obtain the softc pointer from the miniport block by referencing
the PDO rather than a private pointer of our own (nmb_ifp is no
  longer used)
- implement IoAttachDeviceToDeviceStack(), IoDetachDevice(),
  IoGetAttachedDevice(), IoAllocateDriverObjectExtension(),
  IoGetDriverObjectExtension(), IoCreateDevice(), IoDeleteDevice(),
  IoAllocateIrp(), IoReuseIrp(), IoMakeAssociatedIrp(), IoFreeIrp(),
  IoInitializeIrp()
- fix a few mistakes in the driver_object and device_object definitions
- add a new module, kern_windrv.c, to handle the driver registration
and relocation/dynalinkign duties (which don't really belong in
  kern_ndis.c).
- made ndis_block and ndis_chars in the ndis_softc stucture pointers
and modified all references to it
- fixed NdisMRegisterMiniport() and NdisInitializeWrapper() so they
work correctly with the new driver_object mechanism
- changed ndis_attach() to call NdisAddDevice() instead of ndis_load_driver()
  (which is now deprecated)
- used ExAllocatePoolWithTag()/ExFreePool() in lookaside list routines
instead of kludged up alloc/free routines
- added kern_windrv.c to sys/modules/ndis/Makefile and files.i386.

c547dbe854 Fix so all parts of lpd, lpc, lpq, and lprm will use the same algorithm
for calculating the job number for a job based on the control-file name.
We might receive cf-files named by other implementations of lpr, where
the job number shown by lpq would not match the job number that other
commands expected for the same name.

This also uses a newer algorithm for determining a job number, to avoid
problems caused when a control-file is named using an IP address, instead
of the hostname.

This also moved the declaration if isowner() from lp.h to rmjob.c. When I
went to change the parameters, I noticed that rmjob.c was the only source
file which uses it.

e357c6ec8e Do more extensive checking of the userid field which is read in from the
control-file for each print job. This is partially because the previous
checks still let through some characters which would cause trouble for
other applications which try to process the resulting userid -- such as
accounting programs.

But the main reason is to handle the case where some remote host sends a
print job where the given userid is an uppercase-version of the real userid.
For that case, lpd will now check for uppercase letters in the userid. If
there are any, it will check to see if the given userid (with the uppercase
letters) is a valid one. If it is *not* valid, then lpd will change the
userid to all-lowercase right when the job is received.

45ae467e85 Due to unknown reasons, Disk_Names() returns SCSI CDROM as a valid
disk. This is main reason why sysinstall presents SCSI CDROM to
available disks in Fdisk/Label menu. In addition, adding a blank
SCSI CDROM to the menu generates floating point exception in sparc64.
Disk_Names() just extracts sysctl "kern.disks". Why GEOM treats SCSI
CDROM as a disk is beyond me and that should be investigated.
For temporary workaround, ignore SCSI CDROM device.

hence bump it to 6.

Note that the last commit message was not quite accurate. While the
assumption exists in the code, it's not possible to have an
uninitialized p there because if lflag is set when username is NULL
then execution would be terminated earlier.
