This commit adds a new option `abort`, which when configured, will exit
the Vagrant process completely. If set to `true`, it will exit cleanly
with exit code 0. Otherwise, the exit code can be configured.
Update capability to use guest inspection module for determining
correct actions to execute. When systemd is in use restart the
correct active service, either NetworkManager or networkd. Default
to using the original service restart when systemd service is not
found.
Prior to this commit, the puppet provisioner would not properly set its
environment variables, if any were configured in the Vagrantfile. This
commit separates those properly with semicolons when calling out to
puppet apply.
The AutomaticCheckpointsEnabled option may not always be available
depending on the version in use. Check for support before applying
the configured value. If automatic checkpoints are to be enabled
and support is not available, force an error.
Since we are no longer extracting information based on key value due
to localization issues, use start and end locations to extract data.
This prevents errors when extra information is included like Scope.
Prior to this commit, providers like docker would fail to be brought up
because they do not store box objects like virtualbox or vmware
provider guests. This commit fixes that by making sure the box object
exists before writing the metadata file to disk.
This commit introduces the `--force` flag to the reload command. This
change means that if the flag is included, the halt step of the reload
will forcefully shutdown the virtual machine rather than a graceful
halt.
When performing a box update and the box version has been updated
to be different than the installed version, perform a lookup for
the latest available installed box to allow the update command to
continue successfully
Only move new exports file to destination without sudo when the
file has write access and the directory has write access. Always
use sudo when changing file ownership.
When a guest is created, the box metadata information is stored in the
machine data directory. This allows modifications to happen to the
Vagrantfile definition of the box in use (box name change, box version
change, etc) while still allowing the Machine instance of an active
guest successfully load the box currently backing it.
This occurs with a Linux host when a link-local address is configured
for vboxnet0 (which is the default for VirtualBox 5.2.6).

Adds the `docker_consistency` option, which sets the Docker volume
consistency level. This can be used to greatly improved synced folder
performance, especially on macOS.

Service status check was failing because it was not being run as root. This resulted in vagrant thinking the service was not running, hence it would always try to start nfs rather than updating exports.
Prior to this commit, the run trigger option wouldn't catch for failures
outside of the #Subprocess.execute raising exceptions. This commit fixes
that by inspecting the exit code result of the subprocess and using the
new `exit_codes` option to determine how to move forward with the
trigger.
After installing msys2, there is another `cmd` on the path which prevents shared folders from being mounted. Explicitly calling `cmd.exe` fixes the issue
When the configured directory for FTP push has too many files, it will
generate an exception and fail due to a stack overflow. When this happens
just rescue out the exception and re-raise a custom error to provide
some context to the user on the actual problem.
Adds the final line of output to tests and properly simulates
failure. Fix with type casting to prevent calling methods on
nil and drop the final entry as it's not valid.

The base chef provisioner class will set the node name automatically
if not provided in the configuration. Since the chef apply provisioner
does not provide a node_name option, setting it will invalidate the
configuration. This checks for the node name before attempting to
use it.

Prior to this commit, when setting up private networks on Ubuntu using
netplan, it assumed that the guest was using systemd, the suggested
default tool to manage networking, and did not take into account devices
that could be managed with NetworkManager. This commit fixes that by
looking at the devices managed on the guest to see if its managed by
NetworkManager, and if so, use that renderer for netplan instead of
networkd.
This commit uses the internal helper SafeExec rather than using the
Kernel class directly. It also adds a test to ensure that if the `-t`
option is used, it will call SafeExec.
Keep track of selected Hyper-V switch using the ID instead of name
to prevent any encoding issues that may occur switching between
PowerShell and Ruby. With the IDs staying consistent, the switch
name can be fetched from the provided ID.

To allow users to continue to use the community plugin, this commit adds
a switch that will not load the core trigger feature if it detects the
community plugin is installed. It also allows the user to disable the
warning so they can continue to use the plugin without extra output.
If the guest address is unavailable via Hyper-V inspection, extract
MAC address of network adapters and check neighbor information for
any currently matching known address.
Due to the behavior of URI.parse on Ruby < 2.5 returning the string
value of the parsed URI object may modify the original URL. Specifically
it will remove the `//` prefix characters from SMB paths. When no
host modifications are being made, always return the original value.

This commit sets the structured_facts option to nil if its still
UNSET_VALUE at the finalize step. This was causing a bug when the facter
config was set but was not using structured facts.
This updates the permissions on the automatically generated private
key file to only be readable by the user. Includes support for file
permission modification on Windows platform.
This uses shellwords to split the command in the command filter
inside the winrm communicator. Using shellwords properly handles
things like quoted paths. Path arguments are also quoted to
prevent issues with paths that include spaces.

The pull request #6561 added the support for arrays for data_bags_path
in chef-solo and chef-zero, but missed a `.first` in chef-zero (which
only keeps the first data bag path). The documentation and the template
for chef-zero are already good (since #6561).

Prior to this commit, the incorrect path was used when determining where
to export an ovf file during the `vagrant package` step. This commit
updates that by checking if vagrant is within WSL, and if so, convert
the path to a proper windows path to be used during the export.

Prior to this commit, the hyper-v and virtualbox system crash check
existed within the initialize function of the virtualbox provider. That
caused an issue when running with other providers, because the
virtualbox provider still gets initialized even if not used. This commit
changes that by placing the check inside of one of the virtualbox
provider actions that checks if virtualbox is installed and ready to
use. This action is action is used by the main vbox provider actions,
and should not be called when other providers are being used with
Vagrant.
Always remap old hosts to target host when encountered. When custom
vagrant server is defined, warn when tokens may be attached and allow
time for user to cancel.

This commit adds a function on windows for the VirtualBox provider to
check if Hyper-V is enabled. If so, exit and display a warning to the
user that going forward will result in a system crash.
This makes it silent (no progress information), which would otherwise
result in output like the following (when the output from the bootstrap

`uname -sr` return also 5.11 on OmniOS, SmartOS which is not the same as Oracle Solaris 11.x. SmartOS and OmniOS are inherit from Solaris and not from Solaris 11. For that reason we need a more explicit check that a solaris11 guest is a real Solaris version 11, for that reason the /etc/release file is checked.
Display warning to user about the VirtualBox SharedFoldersEnableSymlinksCreate
option with link to VirtualBox documentation and instructions on how the
setting can be disabled.
Prior to this commit, the virtualbox synced folder option
`SharedFoldersEnableSymlinksCreate` was always enabled. This commit
introduces a config option and an environment variable which allows
users to configure the option globally or per synced_folder in their
Vagrantfile.
Prior to this commit, when the `--global` flag was used with the
`vagrant box outdated` command, it would ignore box providers and not
inform the user of all outdated boxes. This commit fixes that by
displaying each box within the users environment, and includes the
provider of the box in the message.
As of `net-ssh` version 4.2.0, the key :paranoid has been deprecated in
favor of using :verify_host_key. This commit updates Vagrants ssh config
to use the new key, and deprecates the use of :paranoid.
+ This disambuguates calls to the Hyper-V functions for the Hyper-V provider.
The ambiguity of some commands - such as `Get-VM` - causes the Hyper-V provider
to fail on systems where VMware PowerCLI is installed. This change ensures that
all calls to Hyper-V specific cmdlets or functions are prepended by `Hyper-V\`.
This ensures the correct cmdlet calls are being made.

Provides simple nfs service name detection via systemd or sys-v. Defaults
are provided if no match is found. Service name is defined via method
allowing derivative guests to only need to provide an updated name.
This fixes an issue when the interface being configured is the
interface through which ssh traffic is forwarded.
In a complex scenario, one needs to disable the default interface for
NAT, and use other interface for ssh. In this case, when vagrant run
`ifconfig #{ifname} inet delete`, the second ifconfig that is supposed
to restore interface settings will never be called. This might be a rare
need, but it is also strongly recommended to use `netstart` when
reconfiguring interfaces after updating `hostname.if(5)`.
The issue can be triggered when ssh connection has issues between two
`ifconfig` commands.
This bug (invalid method call) hasn't been caught by unit tests because
Vagrant::Plugin::V2::Config catches all invalid/bad configuration calls
and save them for generating error messages during the "validate" stage.
This way, the `ask_sudo_pass=(value)` method was not interrupted and the
`@ask_become_pass` attribute was (surprisingly) correctly set (allowing
the related unit tests to pass).
In order to avoid similar problem to happen again, the deprecation
message output is now fully verified.
This commit ensures that we actually break when the download was
successful. Before it tried to download again for every iteration of the
loop. In addition the number of iterations have been increased. I've
experienced timeouts on third retry. Increasing to 5.
This commit adds better messaging to the user if the parallel flag is
used without the force flag. It also makes the state checking based on
the delta between the initial and final states of the guests due to the
fact that there is no guarantee what the "destroyed" state id will be
between providers.
On Debian installations, wget is installed even into the most minimal
environment. Even Python support on Debian cannot be guaranteed if
Standard System Utilities was not selected at installation time (or if
debootstrap was used), which is why the retrieved bootstrap-salt.sh
script takes care of installing it prior to installing Salt.
This commit requires the winssh communicator class wihtin the public_key
capability for Windows. Prior to this commit users could run into a
situation where Vagrant would check if the machine could speak in WinSSH
and fail on an uninitialized constant.
This commit removes some duplicated code within the Solaris11 guest
implemnentation and instead relies on the Solaris guest for the majority
of its guest capabilities.
It should be valid to allow paths with spaces for the synced folder
guest path but since the guest path is used to generate the ID (if one
isn't provided), this will err out in VirtualBox because it doesn't
allow spaces for the --name argument. We should simply convert ' ' to
'_' as we do with other special characters.

2. During my tests I constantly ran into 408 timeouts when downloading the salt binaries. I've prevented that by adding a simple retry mechanism and an error exit in case of multiple failures. Without this change the bootstrap script never returned (and neither did vagrant up)
Output format of ui.info method (bold text) makes reading long script outputs really heavy on the eyes. ui.detail is a better match for this type of output.

A lot of vboxmanage commands are flakey and frequently cause
bringing multiple machines up at once to fail, especially when
the host system is under heavy load. Most commands are also safe
to retry and just result in a no-op, so we can simply add
'retryable' to a lot of existing calls. For the others we need to
do a little bit of cleanup or reevaluate the parameters before
trying again.
- Keep the Programming Errors with corresponding Exception class and
en.yml message template. Fix the alphabetical order in errors.rb by
the way.
- Fix English wording in the documentation and en.yml messages
- Use StandardError for unknown error rescuing.

Vagrant will verify that the current Ansible version does support the
requested compatibility mode (only applicable if not "auto", of course).
As mentioned in the documentation, there is no sanity checks between
`version` option and `compatibility_mode` option.
With this change, the host-based provisioner is also improved to
execute only once the "ansible" command (and store the gathered
information for multiple usages like version requirement and
compatibility checks). On the other hand, the guest-based provisioner
can still potentially execute "ansible" twice (once in the
AnsibleInstalled cap, and via "gather_ansible_version" function via
Base::set_compatibility_mode).
Before this change, only the ansible_local provisioner supported this
option (for ansible version requirement, and pip installation). Now, the
ansible host-based provisioner can also require a exact ansible version.

Note: this has been added as part of #6570 resolution, since the
introduction of the `compatibility_mode` auto-detection made both
provisioners made capable to detect ansible version.
Pending: optimize the code to avoid duplicated executions of "ansible
--version" command.
With this change, it is now possible to get rid of many deprecation
messages successively introduced in Ansible 1.9, and 2.0. More
interesting, the generated inventory will contain the recommended
variable names (e.g. `ansible_host` instead of `ansible_ssh_host`)
when the compatibility mode is set to '2.0'.
Details:
- Add `compatibility_mode` option to control the Ansible parameters
format to be used. The value corresponds to the minimal version
supported. For the moment, possible values are '1.8' (corresponding to
Vagrant's former behaviour) or '2.0'.
Note that a dynamic inventory generated in compatibility mode '2.0'
is not supported by Ansible 1.x. On the other hand, Ansible 2.x so far
supports inventory format generated by the compatibility mode '1.8'.
- Add compatibility mode auto-detection, based on the available Ansible
version. This is the default behaviour in order to bring a maximum of
user friendliness. The drawback of this approach is to let potential
compatibility breaking risks, for `ansible` provisioner setups that
already integrate Ansible 2.x **AND** rely on the existence of
the generated `_ssh` variable names. Thanks to the vagrant warnings
(and its release notes), I argue that it is worth to offer
auto-detection by default, which offers a sweet transition to most
users.
- Add `become`, `become_user` and `ask_become_pass` options and their
backwards compatible aliases. The legacy options are now deprecated.
Note that we intentionally didn't provide a '1.9' compatibility mode,
as it would add extra-complexity for practically no added-value.
To my knowledge, the Ansible 2.x series haven't introduced yet any major
changes or deprecations that would motivate to introduce a higher
version compatibility mode (to be confirmed/verified).

- Optimization: Reduce the number of `ansible` command executions.
Currently two exec calls will be performed when the compatibility
mode auto-detection is enabled (i.e. by default). We could make the
provisioner a little bit smarter to only execute `ansible` only once
in any situation (by combining "presence" and "version" checks).
- User-friendliness: Add better validator on `compatibility_mode`
option, and shows a warning or an error instead of the silent
fallback on the auto-detection modus.
- Test coverage: All the added behaviours are not fully covered yet.
Prior to this commit, if you set up multiple folders to export with NFS
on linux with the exact same hostpath, the template used to write
/etc/exports would end up placing the same path with the same IP in
/etc/exports and cause an error preventing the folders from being
properly mounted. This commit fixes that by first looking at which
folders are being exported and if there are any duplicates. If so,
remove the duplicates and only export 1 hostpath folder. If these
duplicate folders have differing nfs linux options, an exception must be
thrown because we cannot assume which options the user intended to
export with.
The patterns "all" is a special keyword that target all hosts in the
inventory. Therefore it makes sense to accept "all:vars" as a group
variable name. Note that "*:vars" pattern is not valid in an Ansible
inventory.

This commit aligns how the file provisioner should work on all host
machines. It ensures that a `/.` is only applied if the user intended
to upload a folder to a destination under a different name. It ensures
that if uploading to a windows guest with a different destination folder
name, it does not nest the source folder under that name so that it
works the same as it does on linux platforms. It also updates the
behavior of the winrm upload communicator by allowing an array of paths
to be uploaded instead of a single file or folder to allow for this new
functionality for windows guests.
This commit introduces the salt_arg option that allows a user to pass
additional command line flags to the `salt` tool when provisioning with
a master setup.
It also adds additional config validation to ensure that both
`salt_args` and `salt_call_args` is an array.
Prior to this commit, if the ssh-config command was invoked within
cygwin or msys2, it would show a regular windows style path for private
keys rather than a path that could be used within msys2 or cygwin. This
commit updates that behavior by converting all of the private key paths
to the proper msys2 or cygwin path if the platform is windows and the
command was invoked from one of those two shells.
Prior to this commit, when the guest capability attempted to expand a
path with spaces it would quote the path passed in. However if the path
also had a relative path those quotes would end up making `printf`
ignore it and not properly expand the path fully. This commit updates
that to first escape the quotes of a path and then pass in the new path
to be expanded.
Prior to this commit, when using a global id to bring up a vagrant vm,
vagrant would fail during the "install provider" step due to the fact
that the global vagrant machine was not configured for the local vagrant
environment. Since this global vm exists elsewhere, we disable the
install provider step so that vagrant can just bring up the global
vagrant machine.
Prior to this commit, there was no way to add additional ssh arguments
within a Vagrantfile for a given vagrant machine. This commit introduces
a new option extra_args that allows users to pass in a single argument
or an array of flags that will be added onto the ssh command.
Prior to this commit, the `vagrant validate` command would only validate
the first machine in a vagrant file. This commit improves that by
validating all known machines in the environment. If one is not found,
it will properly throw an exception instead of a stacktrace.
Prior to this commit, if a user passed in a script that was frozen,
the shell provisioner would fail to modify the script to replace line
endings for windows because the string was immutable. This commit fixes
that by dup'ing the string so that it can have its line endings replaced
Prior to this commit, if a user set the `destination` path to include a
space, the `shell_expand_guest_path` function would remove that space
and return a partial path. This commit updates that to quote the path to
be expanded to preserve the entire path.
Prior to this commit, if a file provisioner block was ran twice with a
folder on a remote host, due to how scp works, it would first copy over
that folder, and then on the second action it would copy an identical
folder nested within the first one. While this is 'intended' behavior
with scp, it is unexpected behavior for the file provisioner. This
commit updates the file provisioner to first ensure that the directory
to be copied exists on the remote host prior to copying, and then the
destination dir has been changed to the directory that the destination
will be copied to, rather than the exact directly that includes the
folder from the host to prevent the nested folder behavior.
This adds a prompt for a token description, which is now supported in
Vagrant Cloud. Pressing enter on the prompt uses the default description
of `"Vagrant login"`.

Prior to this commit, if a state was reached where the action_box_add
command needed a force flag, it would fail requesting the user to
provide that flag to override adding a new box. However that flag did
not exist on the box update command, and could not be passed onto the
action_box_add action. This commit updates that to include a force flag,
and if used, pass that value onto the action_box_add action.
Prior to this commit, because of how the bootstrap salt shell file
worked, if github could not be resolved, the installer script would fail
silently with an exit code 0 because `sh` would evalute without any
errors and the curl exit code would be ignored. This commit splits out
the installer to first attempt to save the bash installer, and if it
exists, execute it.
Powershell helper script now returns error when guest IP address
cannot be discovered. When reading addresses from a network
device both IPv4 and IPv6 are stored and the IPv4 address has
precedence on returned address.
When preparing the NFS settings on VirtualBox the guest IP addresses
are pulled from VirtualBox directly and any static addresses are
pulled as well. This can lead to aquiring a host IP and machine IP
but results in a failure of NFS mount because the IPs are not on
the same network. This filters the machine IP result to validate
it is within the host adapter IP range.
Prior to this commit, the puppet provisioner would use the manifest dir
flag when running `puppet apply`. Not only is this flag redundant due to
how puppet apply works, but it is also deprecated in Puppet 4 and
removed in Puppet 5. This commit simply removes the flag when invoking
`puppet apply`.
Prior to this commit, rsync-auto would not properly rsync realtive dirs
outside the cwd if defined in the Vagrantfile. This commit updates that
to ensure that the command looks at the Vagrant config to ensure that
folder was intended to be rsync'd to the machine even if outside the
current working dir.
Prior to this commit, when users invoked the `rsync-auto` command using
the docker provider with boot2docker, vagrant would rsync all known
containers using the boot2docker vm rather than the current working dir.
This commit updates that behavior to ensure that only the current
working dirs vagrant machines will be rsynced.

Prior to this commit, if a user attempted to configure
`/etc/default/docker` through vagrant prior to installation, the package
manager would not override an existing configuration and installing
docker would then fail. This commit fixes this by introducing a
`post_install_provisioner` that allows users to define a provisioner
block that will run after docker has been installed, allowing users to
configure `/etc/default/docker` how they want.
This commit adds a variety of fixes for SmartOS guest support:
- Host name setting now works in the global zone and in non-global zones
- NFS now works in the global zone and the non-global zone.
- Tests are updated and moved to the (apparently) more modern style
This commit allows the user to configure two additional options that
were previously not configurable: Compression and DSAAuthentication.
Each config option is set as a boolean, and if left out of the config
will default to its previous behavior which is included and set to
"yes". If the user explicitly sets it to false, it will not be included
as an ssh option.
While neither the FreeBSD provisioner nor the SUSE provisioner support
installing Ansible using pip their ansible_install methods still get
called with that fourth argument. The result being these errors when
Vagrant tries to install Ansible.

The Arch provider, it too without pip support, already catches the
pip_args argument this way.
Prior to this commit, Vagrant had no way internally to determine if a
provisioner object was unique if the `name` property was not set.
Because of this, when vagrant went to merge configs it would duplicate
an existing unnamed provisioner since it had no way of determining if a
user actually had added the same provisioner twice. This commit fixes
that by introducing an id which will default to `name` if its set, but
if not will be set by `SecureRandom.uuid`.
Prior to this commit, the ssh communicator would use the default cipher
list in Net::SSH to negociate which ciphers it should use between hosts.
Due to a bug in Net::SSH and the position of the `none` cipher in its
default cipher list, if a host supported the none cipher, but also
only supported other ciphers that came after none in the default list,
it would accept none and attempt to use that cipher instead of the other
supported ciphers. This commit fixes that behavior by copying the
default cipher list from Net::SSH and placing none last in the list so
that other ciphers can be used in the negotiation before attempting to
use the unsecure none cipher.
This commit adds some better handling around the snapshot restore and
delete commands for the virtualbox provider. If a user attempts to restore from
a vm that does not exist, instead of exiting 0 it will raise an
exception saying the virtual machine has not been created yet.
Addtionally, if a user attempts to restore from a snapshot id that does
not exist, instead of printing a complicated exception from the
virtualbox cli tool, it prints a more useful error message telling the
user that the snapshot does not exist.
Prior to this commit, if a user ran the `vagrant ssh -c CMD` command, it
would not allow the user to configure pseudo-terminal allocation. This
commit introduces a -t flag for the `vagrant ssh` command which defaults
to true if not specified.
This commit adds/changes the following for SmartOS guests:
- modifies the "Halt" capability to use /usr/sbin/poweroff in preference
to /usr/sbin/shutdown with parameters, and modifies the associated
test.
- adds an "InsertPublicKey" capability and tests.
- adds a "RemovePublicKey" capability and tests.
With this commit applied, the vast majority of typical Vagrant workflow
is available to SmartOS global zone guests (provided NFS mounts are used
rather than VMWare shared folders).
Prior to this commit, if a user attempted to use the `vagrant snapshot
save` or `vagrant snapshot list` commands on a vm whose provider did not
support snapshots, it would simply print a warning. This commit changes
that behavior by instead raising an error.
Prior to this commit, the vagrant snapshot plugin would save snapshots
with existing names which lead to duplicate snapshot names being saved.
This commit fixes that by checking to see if the given snapshot name
already exists and if so, fails telling the user the given snapshot name
already exists. If a user passes a --force flag, vagrant will first
delete the existing snapshot, and take a new one with the given name.
Before the patch this error will happen if the original directory already exists

Enables proper setup of VMs started from within WSL rootfs paths. Updates
setup for Windows access when working within the WSL to auto-detect settings
instead of relying on user defined environment variables.
This makes the behavior of the docker and hyperv provider consistent with the
virtualbox provider by raising an error on ssh actions if the machine is not
created or not running.

Reduce the total number of commands run to configure interfaces. If
a service reload/restart is required, only execute it once instead
of once per device. When nm is managing a device, the explicit up
is not required.
Properly detects NetworkManager on guest as well as devices controlled
by NetworkManager. Provides configuration option to enable/disbale
NetworkManager control on devices.

In some cases the SSH connection may be aborted while waiting
for setup. This includes aborted connections in the list of
applicable exceptions to retry on while waiting for the connection
to become available.

Prevent sending empty data strings to defined blocks handling
stderr and stdout output. These can occur when the garbage
marker is identified and collected data pruned, but no remaining
data is left to send.

With the introduction of `pip_args` option, you can easily extend the
`:pip` installation mode behaviour. But some interesting/advanced usages
are still not possible because of the auto-generated parts ("ansible"
package, version selection, and the `--upgrade` flag).
By adding this "pip_args_only" install mode, it will be for instance
possible to:
- install unofficial releases, like release candidates published at
https://releases.ansible.com/
- install more pip packages (e.g. via a `requirements.txt` file), with
hash validation, etc.
Note that there is no config validation that requires `pip_args` option
to be defined when the :pip_args_only mode is selected. This would be
more elegant, and user friendly to raise a configuration error, but this
can wait. At least, running with an empty `pip_args` won't lead to any
command crash, since the rather dummy "pip install" shows an helper
notice and terminates with a zero (0) exit code.
This change is thought as a complement to the changes originally
proposed in pull request GH-8170.
With this new option, it is now possible to pass additional arguments to
pip command when the `install_mode` is "pip".

RHEL-7 / Current Fedora versions tend to use NetworkManager for
configuring the networks, and `service network restart` might fail.
If the `NetworkManager` service is running, we should restart it,
otherwise we try restarting `network`.
Allows checksum validation on downloaded files via Util::Downloader
using MD5 and/or SHA1 checksums. This also integrates checksum validation
support with the shell provisioner for downloaded remote files.
Usage: vagrant box prune [options]
Options:
-p, --provider PROVIDER The specific provider type for the boxes to destroy.
-n, --dry-run Only print the boxes that would be removed.
--name NAME The specific box name to check for outdated versions.
-f, --force Destroy without confirmation even when box is in use.
-h, --help Print this help
If a `name` is specified as an option, it will be used as the id instead
of inferring it from the `guestpath`. If `guestpath` is nil, the `name`
needs to be specified so the folder can be mounted with a name.
This also fixes the synced folder code to allow `guestpath` to be nil.
It was allowed in a previous version for the purpose of preventing a
directory from being auto mounted (#936), but seems to have become an
error at some point after that.
An example of modifying the default /vagrant folder so it doesn't
auto-mount anymore:

The `pkg_add` command will return `0` when a package requested for
installation is not found. This adds a validation check to ensure
the rsync package is actually installed on the guest.
When configuring network devices force NetworkManager to reload new
configuration files as they appear. This prevents NetworkManager from
attempting to continue managing devices on initial start up.
With this new option defined, the `ansible-galaxy` and
`ansible-playbook` commands generated by the Ansible provisioners will
be executed with the ANSIBLE_CONFIG environment variable set
accordingly.
Resolve GH-7195
This commit also fix the following open issues:
- Implement the pending RSpec examples about path existence checks
performed by the ansible (remote) provisioner.
- In verbose mode, the ansible remote provisioner now correctly displays
the Ansible Galaxy parameters ("role_file" and "roles_path") with
single quotes (which is safer for potential copy-paste usage).
Additional Notes:
- Test coverage for `ansible_local` provisioner is still not
implemented. See GH-6633.
- Test coverage for galaxy from host is not implemented yet (due to
general issue with mocking both command executions, see
https://github.com/mitchellh/vagrant/pull/6529#r45278451
It was failing to create files below the machines\default\hyperv folder, rather it was creating folders named 'hypervSnapshots', 'hypervVirtual Hard Disks', and 'hypervVirtual Machines'. This was causing the files to not be removed when destroying the vm, and an error when subsequently bringing it up again.
/etc/issue is far from being a reliable source for OS detection as it
can be changed by a user without affecting any OS functionality. As
newer Debian systems run systemd by default, check for /etc/os-release
and fallback to lsb_release for older Debian versions. Check #7625 for
a similar issue. Even lsb_release is not manatory, therefore keep the
current code of parsing /etc/issue to avoid regressions.
- Remove `ansible-galaxy` detection, since this command was introduced
in Ansible 1.4.2 (December 2013). Checking for `ansible-playbook`
presence should therefore be enough for any "modern" Ansible setup.
- Look for the command defined by the new `playbook_command` option.
Related to GH-7881 and GH-7536
Note that error messages were not adapted, and only mention
a generic "Ansible Software" when executed commands are failing.
We assume that people using the `playbook_command` option are
advanced users that will know all the components to be considered.
Add failing networking interface list sorting test with example
provided by #7883. Update sorting logic to properly handle different
types and differing array lengths.

The ansible-playbook command is currently hardcoded for the ansible and
ansible_local provisioners. This patch adds the config option
playbook_command to allow the user to change the command.
Implemented the differencing disk for vmcx.
This means the disk is now copied by Hyper-V (Powershell) instead of Ruby for new machines.
This does mean EFI Firmware now does work for machines since it is quite a feep copy. Compare-VM will report incompatibilities should they be found.
Changes introduced in #7207 removed the logic to handle the
`minion_id` configuration. This commit addresses that regression
by including the `--id #{@config.minion_id}` flag everywhere that
`--local` is used (as it had done before).
I'm not totally in love with the `get_masterless` abstraction here,
so if someone has a better suggestion I'll happily change it.

- Honour `ssh.proxy_command` setting (even when the Docker provider is
used via a proxy host). Silly configurations may lead to silly
behaviors, but let's apply the settings...
- Remove condition on `provider_config.connect_via_ssh`, which is
a provider specific parameter (from vagrant-libvirt provider).
- Add a simple unit test
Changes introduced in 982af05 caused the RDP configuration file to be written
with all settings on one line instead of one setting per line. The Microsoft
Remote Desktop client for OS X rejects these configuration files as being
malformed. This patch restores the configuration to one line per setting and
adds tests to guard against regression.
Fixes#7629.
nfs-server.service seems to load kernel modules it needs itself, while nfsd appears in `/proc/filesystems` only after the kernel module has been loaded, so vagrant fails to detect NFS server until it's started first time after the system has booted. This checks if the NFS service actually exists and hopes that it'll figure the stuff out itself.

BSD-based guests do not support VirtualBox shared folders. This is a
common source of confusion in Vagrant. This new error clearly explains
that this is not a bug in Vagrant and provides instructions on how to
disable them.
lsb_release command is included in lsb-release package. Sometimes this is
not installed; ex: Docker official Ubuntu image.
/etc/os-release is included in base-files package,
so this is more reliable than lsb_release.
Use the version of Hyper-V instead of Powershell to determine which
exception is thrown by Get-VM. Also fixing an invalid catch statement,
since Powershell can not use variables to match thrown exceptions in
catch.
This adds a new environmental variable `VAGRANT_BOX_UPDATE_CHECK_DISABLE`,
which instructs Vagrant to not check for box updates when running
regular Vagrant commands. This behaves the same as the existing
`config.vm.box_update_check` configuration option, but can be set
globally. Vagrantfile-supplied options will take precedence.

The change to this file 10 days ago removed a newline character at the end of each key added to it. This mean that when another key was added, it continued on the same line as the one before and thus wasn't being detected when an ssh connection came in with a key file.
With regards to https://github.com/mitchellh/vagrant/issues/7455 this is an (ugly) fix.
I'm sure someone knows a better command to concat a file and a string and append it to the `authorized_keys` file. But this does fix the problem.
This commit include the following changes:
- systematically set ANSIBLE_ROLES_PATH environment variable when
galaxy_roles_path is defined.
- slightly refactor to introduce the concept of "provisioning working
directory" (possible usage in the future for resolving GH-7195)
- fix a bug in ansible-galaxy execution by the ansible_local provisioner
if the paths contains blank characters.

At the moment, the pip setup (via get-pip.py script) is not working for
RHEL6-like systems (CentOS 6.6, OracleLinux 6.5, Scientific Linux 6),
because Python 2.6 has been deprecated and is no longer supported by
Python core team. I consider this limitation with low priority in
Vagrant context.
The `:pip` install_mode is currently not implemented for the following
platforms:
- OpenSUSE
- ArchLinux
- FreeBSD
Known Issue: By using get-pip.py script, any previous pip installation
will be most probably overrided. This could be an issue for Python
developers who would prefer to keep their base box setup untouched. In
future iteration, it could be possible to choose to reinstall/upgrade

Resolve GH-6654
Resolve GH-7167 as the `version` option is now considered to select the
version of Ansible to be installed.
Currently the code tries to detect if Arch uses systemd via checking
comm= of PID 1. As access to proc filesystem might be restricted due to
hideproc set and systemd is default for all Arch Linux installations
since October 2012, let's just ditch that check.
Previously this was very complicated trying to flip between Ruby and
bash. This commit uses a single bash command that decides between yum
and dnf in the script itself.
This commit refactors the freebsd networking to:
1. Use predictable network naming
2. Properly handle DHCP vs static networks on up and reload [GH-5852]
3. Perform all networking configuration in a single command to prevent
partial configuration.
This updates the guest capabilities to run in as few communicator
commands as possible. Additionally, it fixes a number of issues around
hostname and idempotency.
This patch was tested against:
- puphpet/debian75-x64
- debian/jessie64
- debian/wheezy64
with custom networking, custom hostname, and rsync shared folders.
This commit does a few things:
1. Make the hostname update idempotent with `grep -w`
2. Add the given hostname to `/etc/hosts` as recommended by the docs
3. Add missing tests
This commit updates the procedure for configuring arch networks to occur
in a single command. Previously, each network was configured
independently. If, for some reason, one of the networks destroyed the
SSH connection, the box would be irrecoverable. This commit does not
alleviate that behavior, but attempts to mitigate it by running all
network-related configuration commands in a single communicator (SSH)
session.
The new procedure looks like this:
1. Upload a temp file to /tmp/vagrant-network-id... for each interface
on the guest.
2. Compile a commands array (of bash) to execute after all network
configurations have been uploaded.
3. Concatenate all the commands together in a single communicator
session.
This was tested against `terrywant/archlinux` using the following Vagrantfile:

This commit updates the procedure for changing the hostname on arch
guests to occur in a single command. Previously, setting the hostname
and adding the value of the hostname to the /etc/hosts file was done in
two different uploads. This reduces the cycle to a single upload, making
provisioning a bit faster.
Additionally, this changes the behavior of the /etc/hosts file to:
1. Not remove localhost as an alias of 127.0.0.1
2. Prepend our custom hostname before localhost
The resulting /etc/hosts file will look something like:
127.0.0.1 my-host.example.com my-host
127.0.0.1 localhost.mydomain localhost
Tested against `terrywang/archlinux` using the following Vagrantfile:

With this change, the presence of Ansible configuration files (like
playbook file, inventory path, galaxy role file, etc.) is no longer
performed by the `config` classes, but by the `provisioner` classes
(at the beginning of the provision command).
This change fixes several issues:
- Resolve#6984 as `provision` method are only executed when remote
(ssh) communication with the guest machine is possible.
- Resolve#6763 in a better way than 4e451c6 initially did.
- Improve the general provisioner speed since the `config` checks are
actually triggered by many vagrant actions (e.g. `destroy`,...), and
can also be triggered multiple times during a vagrant run (e.g. on
callback request made by the machine provider).
Unlike the former `config`-based checks, the provision action won't
collect all the invalid options, but only report the first invalid
option found and abort the execution.
Some unit tests were not implemented yet to save my scarce "open source
contribution time" for other important issues, but they should be done
at last via GH-6633.
Vagrant's environment (which includes the known list of boxes and
versions) is established at the start of the Vagrant run. This means
that box downloads which occur during the run are not contained in the
set until the next run. This causes duplicate box downloads to raise an
error in multi-machine Vagrantfiles.
This commit fixes that issue by pre-processing the machines by provider
and version, creating a unique set of boxes to update.

We know that the vm does not exist if we get VBOX_E_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND.
For any other error, this may well be VirtualBox getting confused and it is probably
worth retrying...
This commit changes the way ports are aggregated in the Docker provider.
Previously ports were aggregated by their "number", but that is not a
truly unique representation. Instead, the protocol is now taken into
account when generating the port map.

an error when the extra_vars file cannot be found, but only display a
a warning (similarly to the changes done for GH-6763, see 4e451c6)
This fixes a fairly large tempfile leak. Vagrant uses a template
renderer to write network configuration files locally to disk. Then,
that temporarily file is uploaded to the remote host and moved into
place. Since Vagrant is such a short-lived process, GC never came along
and cleaned up those tempfiles, resulting in many temporary files being
created through regular Vagrant usage.
The Util::Tempfile class uses a block to ensure the temporary file is
deleted when the block finishes. This API required small tweaks to the
usage, but provides more safety to ensure the files are deleted.
This commit basically grepped the code base for all uses of Dir.mktmpdir
and Tempfile.new/open and ensures the value is unique within the
code base and also prefixed with `vagrant-`.
Previously, most invocations of these commands simply used "vagrant",
thus making them indistinguishable when trying to identify leaks.
Previously, there was no one gesture that would start a VM if it was not
running and run the appropriate provisioners regardless of its original
state. `vagrant up` did nothing if the VM was running, while
`vagrant provision` did nothing if the VM was not running.
Change the semantics of `vagrant up`, via the start actions of the providers,
to go through the provisioning logic even if the VM is already running.
The semantics of `run: "once"` vs `run: "always"` are respected.
Tested with the VirtualBox provider but not the others.

This commit separates the scratch and output directory creation from the
main package middleware into its own PackageSetupFolders middleware.
Additionally, the validation that ensures an output file does not exist
is moved into a validation function that can be shared across multiple
methods.
This refactor permits a pre-flight check to ensure box packaging would
be successful before actually stopping the VM.
Fixes GH-7351
Vagrant was not behaving correctly in configurations where there was
a static IP on a VirtualBox `intnet` interface and a DHCP `:hostonly`
interface configured.
Since `machine_ip` attempted to get static addresses `||` dynamic
addresses, it would simply use the static machine address and
continue.
This commit corrects this behaviour by collecting all static and
dynamic addresses into the `machine_ip` array instead of just one or
the other.
The result of this is a correctly generated `/etc/exports` on the
host machine, allowing NFS mounts to work correctly in this type of
environment.
Call it with "--no-pager"
Without it, if the user has a pager (more/less/etc.) configured and
call vagrant up with NFS shares, systemctl would use the pager, and
that would probably require an unnecessary key press from the user.
With this change, the `raw_arguments` and `raw_ssh_args` options are:
- STILL automatically converted as an Array when they are set a String
(no behaviour change)
- rejected if they are not of Array data type otherwise
Additional Notes:
- the 'as_array' tiny helper has been removed since it was no longer
used.
- there is for now no deeper validation (i.e. verifying that the Array
elements are only *String* objects)
With cb80286a4a, the helper function
stringify_ansible_playbook_command was also applied on the
`raw_arguments` content, which is not wanted. Given that users have used
the `raw_arguments` option as a workaround to avoid the bug GH-6726,
this new change ensure that any `--extra-vars` option passed as a raw
argument won't be additonally enquoted by the ansible_local
provisioner.
This change also improves the ansible remote provisioner verbose output,
but has no impact on its behaviour, which was already correct.
Note that this refactoring introduces some code duplications that are not
very elegant (see ansible_playbook_command_for_shell_execution in
host.rb and execute_ansible_playbook_from_host in base.rb). I hope we
can find a better implementation later, but it is good enough for now
since all these parts are covered by corresponding unit tests (the
`ansible_local` stuff being tested via the verbose output of the ansible
remote provisioner).
The rationale here is to make it so existing Vagrantfile
configurations remain unchanged.
While benh57's solution worked for me, I had to add a
".to_yaml" to the VagrantFile line that implemented puppet.facter
and this would mean existing Vagrant configurations that use Puppet
would produce an error if that was not present.
Additionally, without this change, the Vagrant file also needed a
"require('yaml')" declaration to make the ".to_yaml" conversion
possible.
When updating the inventory, write to a temp file and replace the
original once writing is complete, to allow for an atomic replacement
of the contents.
Ensures that ansible reading an inventory file will get either the old
or new contents, but never the truncated version of the file that
appears should you open it with 'w' mode set to replace the contents.
Solves the 'provided hosts list is empty' error, which is emitted by
ansible should it manage to be reading the inventory file just as it
was truncated, but before the new contents were flushed to disk.
Partially-Fixes: #6526
Ubuntu versions prior to 16.04 always returned a successful exit status,
even if one tried to down an interface that does not exist. This
behavior changed in Ubuntu 16.04 to return an error. This commit
preserves the old behavior.
Fixes GH-7155
Overcomes exception Net::SFTP::StatusException (2, "no such file") when using: "vagrant push" via sftp and a file parent directory does not exist. Function "upload" does not create the directory before uploading a file ('mkdir: true' seems to have no effect as zero directories are created while files are uploaded normally).
If the master VM is removed, but the master_id file exists, Vagrant
would still attempt to clone using the master_id rather then
importing re-importing first.

Before this minor change, the '--limit' and '--start-at-task'
ansible-playbook command line arguments were enclosed into single
quotes. Using double quotes adds a bit more flexibility, especially
about the task name referred by `start_at_task` option.
It also aligns with the handling of the '--extra-vars' parameter
(see cb80286).
Without this change, the JSON string generated from the `extra_vars`
Ruby hash is passed without enclosing quotes and is then not parseable
by the ansible-playbook command when exectuted in a usual shell context.
In this changeset, the ansible (remote) unit test coverage is improved
to cover both usage of `extra_vars` (ansible_local unit tests are still
missing).
Additional Notes:
- Double quotes are favored to single quotes in order to allow usage of
any character for the variable values. For this reason additional
escaping is appended to JSON-inner double quotes and backslashes.
- This problem was not affecting the `ansible` remote provisioner
(which is running the ansible-playbook command via the childprocess
Ruby library). But with this change, the `verbose` output will also
now be correct for a copy-paste reuse.
- After this change, all the "--extra-vars" arguments (also a var
file passed with the @-syntax or anything coming via the
`raw_arguments` option) are "blindly" and systematically enclosed
in double quoted and double-escaped.
This is not optimal and can potentially break with peculiar values
(e.g. a double quote character (") cannot be used in a json value
when using `raw_arguments`). That said, I think that the current
solution is a reasonable trade-off, since the official `extra_vars`
option should now be able to cover a great majority of use cases.

The sentinal file was always being ignored when running the
resume command. This is fixed along with allowing provision
options to be used with resume. Fixes#6787

Added support for Port forwarding in an IP aliased environment. The change
makes the following forwarding rule(s) possible.
Ex: eth0 is ip aliased to have a range of IP addresses 10.20.30.0/24.
In the Vagrant file, we can now have an entry like the following and
it will just work! Note the host port 8081 is the same for both .1 and .2.

Previously the default channel was "current", but after discussion with
@coderanger on GH-6979, it seems like this was a poor design decision.
Instead, we should use the stable channel and allow users to opt-in to
prerelease versions.

Before this change, the detection of a non-existing path on the guest
machine was considered as an error and lead to interrupt the current vagrant
action. This was actually a mistake to do so, since the config checks
are performed before many other vagrant actions than `provision`.
The config.validate phase is also intended to primarily check the options
sanity, but it cannot be too strict with the guest state (which can easily
get "out of automatic control").
With this change, we still apply these checks (when possible), but only warn
about possible configuration problems. This way, the subsequent
statements will happen anyway (e.g. ansible commands will be
executed, vagrant machine will be destroyed, etc.)
In our test environments, it's good to be able to roll back to the same,
anonymous, snapshot repeatedly. This patch adds a `--no-delete` option
to the `snapshot pop` command allowing this.
This makes the new core snapshot behaviour more consistent with what we
were doing with vagrant-multiprovider-snap
(https://github.com/scalefactory/vagrant-multiprovider-snap)
At least for ansible 2.0.0.1 the command `ansible-galaxy --help` is inappropriate for testing if ansible is installed, as it yields an error:

In cd93721, I relied on a suprising combination of quotes to protect ssh
execution to strip the quoted path to the private key file.
Since any ssh command line argument can be passed via
`ANSIBLE_SSH_ARGS`, it is quite more readable and easy to rely on the
`-i` argument, which is not affected like `-o IdentityFile=...` and also
supports multiple occurences.

Note that I decided to not squash both commits for better
documentation and traceability.
Surprisingly (to me at least), a simple quote enclosure was not enough
to fix the problem.
Caveat: the stringified ansible-playbook command logged in verbose mode
is wrongly formatted (no quotes are escaped).

Set the IPv6 adapter IP to be <prefix>::1. Otherwise, guest to host
communication over IPv6 is not routed correctly. This means that
consumers should not specify <prefix>::1 IP addresses to VirtualBox,
which should be a reasonable restriction.

Like in the (remote) `ansible` provisioner, it is preferred to pass the
directory that contains the generated inventory file. This way, advanced
inventory usages can be achieved by adding more inventory files into the
same directory.

Vagrant should only consider the host-only interfaces used by the
virtual machine in the IPv6 fixup code. There may be other interfaces
present on the system with IPv6 addresses that for various reasons
would fail the routing check (for example, an interface with no
machines attached).
The patch changes the behavior to not scan all of the host-only
interfaces and adds a unit test for the behavior (that the correct IP
is validated).
Lastly, there is a small fix here that may not be an issue for most
people where the IPv6 prefix was asummed to be a multiple of 16 for
the purposes of constructing the UDP probe datagram. This assumption
has been removed.

String and Symbol types are different when used as a Hash key. By
default the Vagrant machine names are set in Symbol format, but users
may write their `host_vars` entries with String keys. This is a very
simple way to ensure smooth experience, without having to coerce the
data types during the config validation (e.g. with a library like
Hashie, which is currently not in the Vagrant dependencies)

Refactor and repair regular expression attempting to match present interfaces.
The refactored regular expression will match on enp* ens* eth* variants.
I missed to rename the refactored exceptions as AnsibleCommandFailed in
the guest-based parts. The lack of unit tests for these parts hurts...

This is required because the Chef Server almost always needs a node name to
interact. This will default to the hostname, but that's always going to be
`vagrant.vm`, which will collide easily.
This generates a random hostname with `vagrant-` as the prefix and stores the
result in the machine's data directory.
Starting with PowerShell 5, the progress bar can be observed via the
Write-Progress cmdlet. From WinRM, this appears as a stderr output.
Vagrant assumes that there is error if output appears on stderr.
This terminates various scripts which previously executed successfully
in Vagrant (prior to Windows 10).
This fix injects a variable assignment at various points of the script
execution process to disable display of the progress bar.
This fixes GH-6395 by only appending the access_token once. It also fixes a
bug that was never reported. If a user supplied an access_token for a box URL,
Vagrant would silently overwrite it.
After this commit, Vagrant only appends an access_token to the URL if no
value exists at the key.
This patch introduces a new parameter --all for the remove
command of the box plugin. Setting this parameter will remove
all available versions of a specific box.
Example usage:

With this change, the existing host-based Ansible provisioner is
refactored to share a maximum of code with this new guest-based Ansible
provisioner.
At this stage of development, the existing unit tests are intentionally
modified as little as possible, to keep safe the existing funtionalities.
Other issues resolved by this changeset:
- Display a warning when running from a Windows host [GH-5292]
- Do not run `ansible-playbook` in verbose mode when the `verbose` option
is set to an empty string.
The current docker installer attempt to install the linux-image-extra-`uname -r` DEB package on Debian systems.
This package may not exist, for example on custom kernels (e.g., Linode servers).
If this happens, Vagrant halts the provisioning. However, this package is not really needed in newer Debian releases (such as Ubuntu 14.04).
This small patch checks if the linux-image-extra-`uname -r` package exists, and it will install it if it does. In either case, it will continue provisioning.
This changes the ssh ready? method to treat ENETUNREACH the same way as
EHOSTUNREACH errors.
When attempting to SSH into a box, it tries up to 5 times to connect to
the box, ignoring various errors. Later it will catch and gracefully
handle most of those errors so that callers don't have to know the
details.
However, the Errno::ENETUNREACH error is not caught, which means that
callers that expect a clean boolean return from ready? don't get that,
and instead get an exception they probably aren't expecting.
Changed the name of the error LinuxRDesktopNotFound to
LinuxRDPClientNotFound and re-worded error text in
templates/locales/en.yml to include `xfreerdp` when listing supported
RDP clients.
The benefits of the following "breaking change" are the following:
- default behaviour naturally fits with most common usage (i.e. always
connect with Vagrant SSH settings)
- the autogenerated inventory is more consistent by providing both the
SSH username and private key.
- no longer needed to explain how to override Ansible `remote_user` parameters
Important: With the `force_remote_user` option, people still can fall
back to the former behavior (prior to Vagrant 1.8.0), which means that
Vagrant integration capabilities are still quite open and flexible.
Starting with vagrant 1.7.3
(commit 1152b4e1df) we don't
save the command to be executed in the file anymore, but we send
it as a parameter, thus the back tick makes things worse.
Previously, configuring and enabling network interfaces failed with:
"The following SSH command responded with a non-zero exit status.
Vagrant assumes that this means the command failed!
/usr/sbin/biosdevname --policy=all_ethN -i bash: /usr/sbin/biosdevname:
No such file or directory
Stdout from the command:
bash: /usr/sbin/biosdevname: No such file or directory"
The previous attempt to fix this (ccc4162) doesn't work since it doesn't
properly parse the 'bash: /usr/sbin/biosdevname: No such file or
directory' error message.
This patch works around that problem and adds a comment explaining the
meaning of the return codes.
puppet_server provisioner fails with Puppet Collection 1 with the
following error:

could be because the PATH is not properly setup or perhaps Puppet is not

Currently `configure_networks` guest cap configures NICs following the device order and fails
when the device order is mixed. We should detect the appropriate NIC by its MAC address.
Slackware's version file is /etc/slackware-version not
/etc/slackware-release.
pidof is not on PATH by default (not running as root) so call it using
full path
VirtualBox has a bug where the IPv6 route is lost on every other
configuration of a host-only network. This is also triggered when a VM
is booted.
To fix this, we test the route-ability of all IPv6 networks, and
reconfigure if necessary. This is very fast but we still only do this if
we have any IPv6 networks.
The problem demonstrated in #6065 is that a string has incorrectly been
encoded with US-ASCII even though it contains invalid US-ASCII byte
sequences (any byte with the most significant bit on is invalid in the
US-ASCII encoding).
The thing about doing newline normalization is that it is not actually
sensitive to the presence of US-ASCII byte sequenzes. Additionally, it
is very unlikely that a user will ever be using an encoding where \r\n
is not encoded the same as it would be in ASCII.
This patch first tries the existing method of normalizing the newlines
in the provided script file, if that fails for any reason it force
encodes the string to ASCII-8BIT (which allows the most significant bit
to be on in any individual byte) and then performs the substitution in
that byte space.
We gained a ton of improvemnts to WinRM error handling in
https://github.com/mitchellh/vagrant/pull/4943, but we also got one bug.
The new code raises an exception when `winrm_info` does not return right
away. This was preventing us from catching the retry/timout logic that's
meant to wait until boot_timeout for the WinRM communicator to be ready.
This restores the proper behavior by rescuing the WinRMNotReady
exception and continuing to retry until the surrounding timeout fires.
Adds a configurable value for WinRm and the elevated permission shell ExecutionTimeLimit.

Windows offers no out-of-the-box rsync utility. By far, the most
commonly used external utilities for Windows rsync are built with the
GNU Cygwin libraries. The cost for this convenience is that rsync on
Windows has to be provided paths that begin “/cygdrive/c” rather than
“c:/“ like other Windows-API utilities. Compounding the situation,
rsync doesn’t create paths/to/sub/targets and so the vagrant plugin
code, when performing an rsync, is responsible for creating
intermediate directories in guest paths if there are any. Furthermore,
the mkdir utility in Windows is not another Cygwin utility like rsync
but the routine mkdir of Windows command.com. Therefore, while rsync
needs the /cygwin paths, mkdir uses the Windows paths. Later, the
chef_solo.rp provisioner running within the guest will expect to find
Windows-style paths in its solo.rb configuration file. Due to all this,
vagrant has to keep track of both the original, possibly dirty Windows
guest path and the cygwin-scrubbed guest path.
When the network's type is :dhcp, the :ip option is used to derive the DHCP server configuration, and it doesn't actually indicate the IP that will be received by the VM(s).
This fixes error for Win 10 Enterprise:

This allows Vagrant to calculate if a container's arguments (such as the run
arguments) have changed in the Vagrantfile since the original run.
Fixes GH-3055
When provisioning multiple machines in sequence (the default vagrant
behaviour), it doesn't make sense to require to provide the private ssh
key(s) via the custom ansible inventory script/file.
To align with the handling of multiple ssh keys per machine, we won't
rely any longer on `--private-key` command line argument, but only pass
the keys via `ANSIBLE_SSH_ARGS` environment variable.
Note that when vagrant generates the ansible inventory and that only one
key is associated to a VM, this step would be redundant, and therefore
won't be applied.
This change fixes the breaking change introduced by 3d62a91.
Vagrant 1.7.1 creates and injects new ssh keys for each virtual machine.
When it started ansible with the "parallel provisioning trick",
it would only send the ssh key of the targeted virtual machine.
With this change, vagrant now stores the ssh key for each virtual
machines directly in the generated ansible inventory, and thus allow
ansible parallelism.
Note that this change is not sufficient, as it would break vagrant
configuration based on a custom inventory (file or script). This issue
will be addressed in a next commit.

The Ansible Vagrant provisioner has a race where the inventory file is
updated every time the provisioner runs unless a file is provided.
Therefore if Ansible attempts to provision two nodes in parallel, you
may see the following race:
* System A writes the inventory file and calls Ansible.
* System B starts to provision and truncates the file before
creating a new one.
* Ansible on system A now attempts to read the inventory
file, which is blank. Ansible bombs out with "ERROR: provided
hosts list is empty".
To fix this, we only allow Vagrant to update the inventory file if
it needs to.
Revert 1c884fa4e5 which introduced the
following bug:
Instead of allowing to dump the `ansible-playbook` command details when
VAGRANT_LOG=debug was defined, it was then impossible to disable this
console output when VAGRANT_LOG was undefined (in such case,
``@logger.debug? systematically returns `true`)
In order to keep things simple and focused, it is preferable to drop the
bad idea to mix Ansible verbosity and Vagrant log level.
Fix#5803
Configuring by :interface doesn't work very well because Vagrant has
no idea about what interfaces are present in the VM, for example if
the image has 'docker' installed but not biosdevname, then
interface_names[0] = "docker0" which is usually not what you want
mapped to the first network from the Vagrantfile.
So if the plugins (like vagrant-libvirt) or the Vagrantfile has
given us a network with a MAC address, use that to find the interface
name for the network. Otherwise use slot numbers as before.
Leaving around plaintext username and passwords in a script on a box isn't the best from a security standpoint. This change ensures the scheduled task wrapper script for WinRM doesn't leave these around on the box, and instead passes them to the script as arguments.
Interactive `sed` needs write permission on the file itself. However, it
may create a backup file, which leads to the fact that the directory
where the file is located must be writable as well. That is a side
effect because this directory does not need to be writable.
This patch fixes this side effect by editing the file in `/tmp`, and
replaces it right after.
After #5532 (e745436df3), it was no longer
possible to enable ansible colorized output. Even though
`ANSIBLE_NOCOLOR` has no effect *at the moment* in vagrant+ansible
integration, I agree to keep it for clarity and consistence.
The new `--no-color` behaviour (bug fix#5531) is now covered by a unit
test.

If the Vagrantfile has some kind of error, display not only
its path and the exception message, but also the originating
line number and exception class.
Also log the full backtrace when the error is in a provider
block, just as it is done when it's outside a provider block.
If biosdevname isn't installed it doesn't make sense to try using it
for persistent device names. Just treat lack of biosdevname as
virtual networking.
This change allows you to specify multiple network interfaces to bridge
to, picking the first found.

Fixes issue #5377.
Check that Upstart is not just installed but currently actively running
before attempting to emit an event after mounting shared folders.
Only requires the binary be named upstart, not that it lives in /sbin.
This allows the display of friendly output to the user when we think an
important action should be labeled a certain way. This makes vagrant
output a lot more useful when many inline shell provisioners are
present.
Sed on freebsd seems to be mores strict than on other
platforms about use of -i: the extension is not optional.

When upping a Win XP box, vagrant found a lot of "virtual" network
connections that did not have DHCP enabled, and tried to configure them
for DHCP. This did not work because their :net_connection_id is nil.
Ignoring these network connections enabled the XP box to be upped.
StopOnIdleEnd was set in the task definition for elevated/privileged
windows guest scripts. This setting:
> specifies that the task stops when the idle condition ceases to be true [1]
The "idle condition" is something that Windows periodically checks for,
and it's defined by a bunch of criteria like user presence/absence, CPU
/ IO idle time, etc. [2]
Telling our provisioner to stop the task if the "idle condition" ceases
to be true is a recipe for some sporadically stopped tasks, which seems
like precisely the behavior being reported in #5362.
I'm pretty sure this fixes#5362

When a vagrant box has two private network ips /etc/network/interfaces
will duplicate eth2 and bigger. sed matches greedy, so the first
#VAGRANT-END matches. This will result in:
/etc/network/interfaces:29: interface eth2 declared allow-auto twice
/sbin/ifup: couldn't read interfaces file "/etc/network/interfaces"
This should fix the cleaning up of the default VirtualBox dhcpserver,
which we've been fighting with for ages over in #3083. We were checking
for a structure _including_ a netmask, but the driver was not populating
netmask.
This change helps to avoid troubles like reported in #5018 and #4860.
Note that for sake of configuration simplicity, no new `ansible.timeout`
option has been added. The users who want to set a different value can
rely on `ansible.raw_arguments`.
This SSH option is always set, except when Vagrant is running from an
operating system fo the Solaris-family, as this parameter is not
supported by SunSSH. Logic taken from
bed1f8335f/lib/vagrant/util/ssh.rb (L116-L121)Fix#5017
Vagrant >1.7 is unable to login to the default boot2docker host if it has
been halted and brought back up again.
This is because the insecure SSH keypair is replaced but boot2docker doesn't
persist filesystem changes between reboots. So when next brought up Vagrant
tries to use the new keypair which is no longer valid and subsequently isn't
able to login.
Prevent this from happening by disabling the `ssh.insert_key` option on
versions where it is available.
/cc @sethvargo - Some weirdness here but overall should work fine. I'm
not sure if there was a GH issue this should be attached to or close. To
explain:
We just use the first machine with the default provider. A
Vagrant::Environment guarantees there is at least one machine, so
`env.machine_names.first` will always work. And we can just use the
default provider because we don't really care. Finally, it can be any
old machine we pass in because we just want the "global" config to
validate and there is no way to say "don't validate machine-specific
configs", so we might as well just pick the first machine to validate.
@mitchellh this is a partial revert of 84ae22e. It took me a little bit
to figure out why this broke everything, but then I finally realized it.
84ae22e changes the finalize! function to lookup pushes by strategy
type, but pushes are keyed by push strategy name. In other words, given:
config.push.define("foo", strategy: "bar")
the `push_configs` has will look like:
{ :foo => [:bar, #<PushConfig>] }
This is important, because if we key by strategy, the user cannot
specify the same push strategy more than once:
config.push.define("foo", strategy: "bar")
config.push.define("zip", strategy: "bar")
If we keyed off of the strategy, this would be impossible.
When using the salt provisioner with verbose=true, most lines read with an extra newline:

because the line read has a newline, and emitting the log entry again includes an additional newline.

Detect the presence of the default DHCP server that comes in a fresh
VirtualBox install and clean it up to prevent it from colliding with
Vagrant-managed network config.
In order to accomplish this, we:
- add a `remove_dhcp_server` call to the virtualbox driver
- fix dhcp options parsing to allow `:dhcp_{ip,lower,upper}`
configuration options to make it through (so a user can override the
removal behavior with some explicit configuration)
- add the full `:network_name` to the details returned from
`:read_dhcp_servers`, so we can have a durable value to pass to
`:remove_dhcp_server`
Note that we do have to eat one more `VBoxManage list dhcpservers` for
each network interface to support this, but this seemed like a nominal
cost
This is just a refactor, no behavior change.
Instead of stitching together dhcpserver info in the structure returned
from `read_host_only_interfaces`, sprout a new driver method called
`read_dhcp_servers` to return that information separately.
This means that driver clients (well there's really only _one_ client in
`ProviderVirtualBox::Action::Network`) have to do a bit more work to get
interface and DHCP server information.
But this gives us (a) a cleaner and more consistent driver interface and
(b) groundwork for a fix for #3083, which will require interacting with
DHCP servers outside of the context of host-only interfaces.
Like Vagrant's default SSH behaviors (e.g ssh or ssh-config commands),
the Ansible provisioner should by default not modify or read the user
known host file (e.g. ~/.ssh/known_hosts).
Given that `UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null` SSH option is usually combined
with `StrictHostKeyChecking=no`, it seems quite reasonable to bind the
activation/disactivation of both options to `host_key_checking`
provisioner attribute.
For the records, a discussion held in Ansible-Development mailing list
clearly confirmed that there is no short-term plan to adapt Ansible to
offer an extra option or change the behavior of
ANSIBLE_HOST_KEY_CHECKING. For this reason, the current implementation
seems reasonable and should be stable on the long run.

- force `--connection=ssh` (any other modes like paramiko or smart are not
supported)
- give the highest priority to `raw_arguments` for sake of simplicity (in
usage, in code and in documentation)
- fix position of the `--limit` argument (the generated inventory could be
shadowed by `raw_arguments`, while ansible.limit was able to override
`raw_arguments`

When `--connection` argument is not specified, Ansible will use the
'smart' mode, which can either use `ssh` or `paramiko` transports,
depending of the version of OpenSSH available. If OpenSSH version is new
enough to support ControlPersist technology, `ssh` will be used.

In order to support some advanced features of Vagrant (e.g. multiple ssh
private key identities or ssh forwarding), the Ansible provisioner
already must force `ssh` connection mode.
Having to deal with the possible fallback to `paramiko` increase the
burden of special cases that Ansible provisioner must handle, without
any added value, as Vagrant is based on OpenSSH and its users are
usually using modern operating systems.
With this change, the Ansible provisioner will officially only support
`ssh`. It will still be possible to switch to another connection mode
via `raw_arguments`, but it will breach the "contract", and no
(community) support can be expected in such use case.

This separates the truly basic pieces of Chef (like install url and
log_level) from the runner pieces of Chef (like provisioning_path). This
is necessary because the Chef Apply provisioner does not actually need
most of the Chef configuration options.
Any specific reason the password was omitted from the rdp_info hash?
Without the password in the rdp_info hash I see no way of figuring out the password in the rdp_client capability.
Eliminate warnings like this:

As a result of #4670 and the safe decision to not memoize
machine.ssh_info (see 89a4a29d65 and
5036d16461), it is preferable to store the
ssh_info hashes and avoid multiple function calls when generating the
ansible inventory.
